And you STILL trust Google with your mail?
http://tinyurl.com/4ry6hr2
A Gmail disruption has resulted in tens of thousands of users losing their stored emails and contact information. Google says it's working to restore access to those affected. Several notable crashes at Google and other services over the past couple of years may raise questions about the reliability of cloud services in general. |

Yup.
I still trust Google. A small percentage, and Google says no long term data loss will occur. BTW, this is the third topic opened on this problem. 1) Empty mailboxes in Gmail 2) Gmail History Of Up To 150,000 Users VANISHES |

Yes, still trust Google. Been with them since the beginning and never had a problem. Several domains too and no problems with any of them. Excellent service IMHO.

Use a hosted domain with google apps, which is my main account. No complaints.

Google is not responsible for backing up my contact list and email... that is my job! Privacy issues aside, Google (IMO) performs better than most other free (and paid) email companies.

Just curious: Am I the only here who is astonished by the fact that Google has a tape backup of everything ever stored in every user's Gmail account? A *tape* backup!

Seriously, though, I'm not sure I know a better medium for archival storage: well tested, cheap, manageable. It's not like they could easily burn all that stuff to blu-ray |

The reason I am astonished is that I imagine the amount of data they need to store requires literally millions of tapes?

Someone calculated the tapes would stack 2.5 miles high!

No email provider is to be trusted but we choose which one is more suitable for us.

Yes I still trust Gmail. Nothing beats Google Apps. No other email provider comes close. When holy Fastmail offers over the air syncing. When Tuffmail has remotely comparable spam control. When Yahoo has push email to all handheld devices, maybe there'll be a contest.

Yes, I still trust my email to Google. At least we know now they have a working backup system! ;-)
