Bounce

Bounce seems like it might be a dangerous feature.
Suppose I click on it by accident? Suppose I click on
it w/o intending to and didn't notice? I could get myself
delisted from a mailing list w/o even knowing what happened.

I recommend that you add a default folder or somethiing
called 'reports'. This would contain status reports about
various aspects of your account. One of these status reports
would be generated after every click on the bounce link.

If I bounce an address once, does fastmail keep on bouncing
that address automatically??

Nope. It only bounces that one message.

Something else to be wary of using bounce. If you bounce a message that is addressed to an alias, the message that is bounced back has your real user name in it not the alias.

yep, but the mail system can't know whether you used (one of) your aliases or your login e-mail address. and that's where the "From" combobox is very useful for: you can define different e-mail addresses and choose the address that will appear in the "From" tag of your e-mail. so in your case, you have to select that alias, no?

greetings

I tried a couple of different from addresses and the bounce always defaults to the real username.

Cheers,

All of these problems will be going away when "personalities" are introduced. The "invalid" address will be correctly displayed depending on the POP account retrieved and/or set personality. This was discussed in some other thread, and unfortunately I can't give you the nice convenient link.
