Problems with Site?

This started yesterday afternoon. Over and over, when I would try to open an email I would get an error page something like this:

Not Found

The requested URL //~f7e7eca1c0a12a9b/ was not found on this server.

Today, I'm getting this more often than yesterday, although I'm able to move around sometimes. And today, I'm getting this error a lot when trying to login. I get the login screen, enter my info and click Login, and get this. Is it just me or is something going on?

I was just able to login and read a few emails, but now I am again having the problem. When I click on an email from the mailbox screen, I immediately get a "The page cannot be displayed" error page.

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

This sounds very odd, I don't think anyone else is having problems like this, so my guess is it may be a problem relating to your set-up.

Are you using a proxy server at all, and is your internet connection working ok for your other sites?

My first suggestion would be to clear the cache in your brower (if you need any help just post). And if that doesn't fix it, and if you are using windows, the output from fasttest can often be handy... if you could paste it here that would be great

I am being a proxy, but not having this problem with other sites. It works sometimes in Fastmail but not others. At this moment, I am able to open email but when I click the Reply button I get the Not Found kind of error reported first.

I didn't make any configuration changes just before this started happening yesterday. Today, after I had already experienced some of these problems (and some successes as well), I made several changes - installed 14 critical Windows/IE updates.

Just ran Fasttest (for the first time ever). Here are the results:

I'm not even going to try to understand the FastTest output , but have you tried the Account Problems link on the login page?

No, I hadn't thought to try that. I'm running it now, though.

Have just finished and logged in. Don't appear to be having problems at the moment, but that is consistent with previous observation - it works sometimes and then doesn't. Hopefully this has fixed it. After a little while, I'll post a follow-up here.

BTW, I haven't had any troubles using this Forum.

Now, already, I'm having the errors again. So I don't think the login problems processes fixed whatever is happening to me.

A couple of times when this is happening, and I'm using the
Back button to go back and then trying the action that failed again, I've gotten this strange message on my screen:

Oops, the page you were trying to go to does not exist! Maybe I deleted it by accident, or maybe you mistyped. Let's not argue ;-) Instead, you can head over to the main site and start looking from there.

OK, now that is really strange because that is the forum "404 error page not found" page..... for emailaddresses.com - all very weird...

Actually, generally you shouldn't use the back button on your browser when you are using FM - espcially if you are clicking secure log-in.... It will always produce an error, best to use the [ok] and [cancel] buttons in the top right.

I was actually just going to post to say that

seems odd, especially as they all fail... someone who knows more than me about DNS might have to look at this.... unless its another old chestnut about ISP / user machine caching the old DNS.... As mentioned here : http://www.emaildiscussions.com/...&threadid=9568

Those are almost certainly domain name servers inside my company's firewall, so you shouldn't expect to "see" them. I don't usually log in secure, and when these pages are breaking, I have no choices but to try the back button or else close the browser and start all over.

And I'm having all kinds of problems, still.

Actually, I would bet it probably IS the proxy.

Proxies often have problems with dynamically generated pages, especially of those pages don 'look' like dynamic ones. For example, if I were to go to some site using dynamic pages, it might have a URL like this:

http://www.somesite.com/cgi-bin/me.cgi?something&some=somethingelse

This is easily recognized by proxies, and they will choose not to cache it. however, if it looks like this (like FM does it.)

http://imap.cc/mail2/~4e63662a49a5...blah

that looks more like a static page to a proxy, and it might choose to cache it, or decide its invalid and return a 404 to the browser.

Is there any chance you could try fastmail.fm without the proxy? That would be really good. Also, the FastCheck output would seem to indicate some pretty serious firewalling...potentially that would prevent you from using a mail client to test your FM connection as well?

As far as I know, nothing about my proxy service changed yesterday, and I have been using Fastmail for months through it without any issues, so this all came up very suddenly. I suppose it is possible that something related to the proxy changed yesterday, but not that I know of or that is effecting other access.

That said, I only use Fastmail via the web interface from work. Or, really, from anywhere. I am set up to use it via IMAP through Outlook Express at home (no proxy) but never do. I can try it tonight, though, I guess, if that will help.
