MacWorld features Fastmail
Got my MacWorld Magazine for August and to my surprise there was an article on p.18-19 which did somewhat of a rundown on several webmails. There was a graphic of the Fastmail option screen!! Fastmail stacks up very well, and although actual text doesn't get specific about some of the webmails in their chart, I was impressed with how Fastmail stacked up, not that I didn't already know that it was a premier service.
Good to get the press! |

Nice, thanks for the info and link.
Not commenting on the merits or anything, but I am a bit surprised an Apple oriented service like Spymac doesn't get mentioned -- especially given their Macworld relaunch with revamped services... (My post) |

That link is from Dec 2002. I don't think the August 2004 article is up on the web yet.

That is very old news. Nothing much to note at in that case. |

SpyMac is mentioned in the article...
Actually the article I mentioned is entitled "Webmail Supersizes", Aug.04. This won't be on the web right away. They do also compare SpyMac's service, and I do have an account there just to see how it is, but Spymac is ALWAYS so slow, and while their graphics are lovely, it is just too graphic loaded. I am not a long time Mac user - coming out of years and years of Windows machines, so I don't automatically default to Mac sites. Not to change the subject, but .Mac is probably NOT worth the price! Please, no harsh words, .Mac users. I am sure it has many aficionados.

Sorry about the wrong posting ... and for the overly long clipping.

Personally, I'd be surprised if .Mac doesn't trump every other service in terms of paying Mac users. Even though its priced at $99 USD / year, its an attractive bundle of functionality.
What was the consensus in the article? Who was the winner? |

article didn't specify winner
Interestingly enough, the article wasn't the usual "who's better" thing. There is a chart there with features, and the article seemed to feel the user needed to assess his own needs and pick the webmail that seemed best! I guess that's a fair perspective.
As to .Mac packing features, well yes, but at $99 a year, and it isn't even an ISP - well, you can back up your own stuff without iDisk, you can certainly organize photos, and mount a website without .Mac and Mac mail is, in my opinion, rather cumbersome. For the new computer user, .Mac is great - an intro to computers and the internet, but otherwise, the money can be used toward your ISP! |
