Spammers have in the past often used the same (or similar) address in the From and To fields. You must realize that the From field can contain anything.

I have a few almost certain "this is spam" indicators, including:
  • If the message is flagged as "urgent" priority. Of the thousands of emails I've received in 18 years, one flagged this way was genuinely urgent — all the rest (hundreds of them) were spam.
  • When I need to send a test email, I always send it to another of my accounts; so an email having "From" and "To" addresses both the same is a 100% guaranteed "this is spam" indicator. GMail is also on to this trick, and any such emails arriving at a GMail address are automatically flagged as spam.
