Yes the groundhog saw his shadow - 6 more weeks of winter...not surprising. haha Someone told me the Farmer's Alamac said we'd get a blizzard in Feb (well at least us mid-atlantic folks) but I checked and didn't see EXACTLY that (a heavy storm predicted though). But looks like more of what we've had this winter. Wet, cold, snow.

In London, Candlemas (what I saw of it) was cloudy; today has been fine and mild, so there may be something in this tradition after all.

A slightly humorous story about the movie -- I have some friends and his parents/her in-laws rented the movie and were watching at home on their VCR. They both fell asleep during the middle of the movie. When they woke up, they couldn't figure out where to rewind to because stuff happens over and over again.

This year's Candlemas was cloudy; if we had a groundhog (I think over here the tradition is hedgehogs), it wouldn't have seen any shadow. So with any luck this lovely unseasonably-mild weather will last the rest of the winter. I could certainly do without another cold snap like last week...

Yep folks, it's Candlemas again. Never mind the Imbolcs...
(edit: did anyone happen to notice what the London weather was like today?) |

wow, they look really cute these Groundhogs.
I looked at google. This animal seems to not have made it into Sweden.
We have ChinChillas and they look a bit the same or ??? what is different about them. Are Chinchillas tame Groundhogs? Do they feel the same to touch. The Fur of C. are very smooth to the hand. But they bite on Mains so they die at times we have 230 Volts here. Sad. they could be up t o15 to 20 years??? what about Groundhogs. Have never heard of that holiday b4. trew |

According to one of the sites linked to in this thread (probably indirectly), the groundhog (aka the woodchuck) is a North American rodent and is a member of the squirrel family.
I don't know about chinchillas (except for a variety of cat which bears that name, at least in the UK), but if they're large-ish rodents (somewhat larger than a hamster) then they're probably related to groundhogs... |

We don't have groundhogs (or their day) or chinchillas in Australia. However there is a substantial movement relating the Australian native marsupial, the Bilby, to Easter rather than the bunny rabbit, which is for most intents and purposes an introduced pest in this country.
Near where I live rabbits and hares can completely ruin efforts to establish olive plantations. I wonder if that happens in other parts of the world. Jeff |

Yep. it's that day again!
In the UK it's nearly the end of Candlemas (aka Imbolc, aka Groundhog Day); and although it's bitterly cold it's also overcast, so according to the tradition we're in for an early spring...

Jimmy the groundhog who lives in Sun Prairie Wisconsin, the official groundhog capital of the world, says we will have an early spring.
