GMAIL is down, nobody noticed here?
Wow, am I the only one posting on this? Nobody here uses gmail at all?
http://gmailblog.blogspot.com/2008/0...ere-sorry.html Google says sorry, and that is supposed to make it all ok....I use their mail for archiving only so it was not particularly painful except that everyone talks about how great Google is, and when it goes down, the world seems "ok" with it...I recall the days when Hotmail was down and there was hell, funny how the world works... |

Extensive discussion of the outage has been going on here all day.... all shrewdly concealed in the "Google Gmail Forum."
The outage even made the New York Times... http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/0...-day-blackout/ |

Was this problem only with the Web interface?
I have not experienced problems with Gmail using POP3. I only use Gmail for non important stuff. After all it is still in beta testing. |

Works good today though.
But I agree, one expect them to always be up. To have some kind of 24/7 backup but folks it is Beta you know. Smart to always be beta. 50 years from now they are still in beta status. |

Agree, not smart, but they are constantly making changes; calling it Gmail Beta gives them a convenient excuse to fall back on (CYA).

But it is smart to always backup your email. I have no simpathy for someone who says "I lost everything it is x fault." No, it is not "x" fault, YOU did not have a backup. Dumba I stopped using my google account some time ago though... Terrible service... and I knew it months ago... google needs to step up. Heck, even grandcentral is going under. |

Gmail.com was one of the most reliable email service providers I used.
I use both @gmail.com account and Premier edition of their email services. They both work fine enough, if ever were severe outages, they somehow missed me (I use email often, even on weekends). As for 'permanently beta', their groups were in beta for a long time, and finally they are in production/stable status. Anyway I think that one shouldn't *demand* anything from free email services, just suggest and notify them if there are any problems. |

I've observed little change in GrandCentral, since I received a number in December. But, I'm curious: why you think it is going under?
