changing "from" address

I have read here before that it is possible to change your "From: " address on the fly. How is this done? Where is it documented

Thanks!

In the to: (or cc: or bcc put:
recepiant@their.address#from@address#
to change the from or
recepiant@their.address&from-and-reply-to@address&
to change the from and the reply-to.

I believe this is an undocumented feature that Kirill originally implemented for himself before he left.

Oops. Looks like there was a little miscommunication there...

The information Kyle provided is a model or template of how to arrange a different "From" address. It isn't the actual input to use.

What you want to do is insert the address of your intended recipient in the "To:" field as usual, for example:

To: personIamwritingto@hisemailaddress.com

and then right up against that address, you type in the "From" address you want to appear, bracketed by pound signs, like so:

To: personIamwritingto@hisemailaddress.com#me@myfromaddress.com#

When you then send this message, the "From" address between the pound-sign brackets will appear in the "From:" line of your email's header. It's a cool little feature!

Of course, another--and, to my view, more convenient--way of sending by a different "From" address is to create a new folder and insert the particular "From" address in that folder's appropriate field. Just create a folder, go to "Preferences," and you'll see the fields to be filled in.

Have fun!

Dave

You've been experiencing that too? I'm glad you said that because I thought it was just happening to me. Do you get an all blank page except for the row of grey buttons at top?

Maybe Edwin peformed some modifications recently that have caused a glitch in NS. I'll be interested to see if anyone else mentions this same difficulty...

Dave,

Exactly! That is precisely what started hapening on Friday, I think it was. Means I have to run a second browser just to get here, which is a bit bothersome... I use Netscape 4.78 on one Mac and 4.79 on the other, neither works.

Me too!

Hi Dave and Liz,

I, too, am experiencing the same using Netscape. Using a PC box at uni running Netscape 4.79, I find that if I load http://www.emailaddresses.com/forum , I only see the grey buttons up the top. If, however, I use the URL which takes me directly to Runbox's forum, everything works as normal. Very strange indeed...

On the bright side, everything works perfectly using iCab for Mac which is my default browser

Edwin, given that this problem is shared by a few users of the forum (including a very important one), it might be worth looking in to.

Henry, thanks for the tip about the direct link! I'm using iCab as we speak to access it now though, thanks to you.

Glad to be of assistance, Liz. It's very strange how the direct link to the Runbox forum works yet the EmailDiscussions.com page does not load in Netscape.

Anyway, hope you're enjoying the iCab experience...
