It's intended as secure email service. It protects against forwarding to third parties and against copying and unauthorized use of the attachments.

Quoting from the sfletter's documentation again:

If you choose "Protect the attachments", the text of the email message will be displayed as an ordinary message, and a recipient needs to install StarForce reader to open the received attachments. An instruction about how a recipient can open a protected document will be placed in the attachment [...] Linux users will not be able to open a protected document, but it will remain protected. In this case, we recommend you to use Wine or other systems to work with Windows-based applications.

This, plus the restriction on the systems where one can read messages, makes it too messy for an ordinary user.

There is a borderline between usability and security, and to my mind, sfletter has gone much too far towards overprotection. Of course your requirements may differ.

Interesting service. Their approach is novel.
If they had a linux solution other than wine I would try it out.
Getting contacts to install software would be a major hurdle and having every platform covered is a must.
