new feature-delete button

Just launched!

Delete button right on top
Delete button
Now there's an easy-to-find delete button for those messages you really don’t want. For everything else, there’s Archive. (Archive removes a message from your Inbox, but it’s still in All Mail and you can always search for it.)

SAS, glad you got the Delete feature. Not all users have gotten the feature yet.

What they need now is an empty trash capability so that it isn't necessary to open the trash every time.

Maybe in a couple of years. It is a beta after all.

Gmail is not a product for anal personalities.

Or as Diane Keaton said to Woody Allen in Annie Hall, "[Admin:deleted] is a euphemism for what you are."

Why don't I have the Delete button?

I have a number of gmail accounts and some of them have the button and some not. Why is this and can I do anything about it?

re:conversation bubbles..
The Gmail Conversation Preview is a Greasemonkey script that gives you the ability
to preview your Gmail e-mail with popup bubbles much like Google Maps.

I am in the same situation as you. It takes a little while for the change to propagate to all the servers.

I'm using the Firefox extension that adds one to the interface, so I didn't notice the change.

But yes, it was about time they added that...

The delete button saddens me.

The joy of Gmail is a rethinking of the mail platform, not just a tarted up interface on top of classic e-mail.

That's why a desktop like interface on Hotmail and Yahoo probably won't mean as much.

But in this cosmetic age, where people like to change their skins and keep things the same underneath, well, that's what most companies do.

But Gmail is a bold experiement in many ways, not just how long you can keep calling things beta after they are in production.

It's here, people have one less thing to whine about because they now can push "Delete" rather than select "Move To Trash." Not a big difference to me.

Google amused me when they said that the problem was a supplier who couldn't deliver Delete buttons of a high enough quality, but now that they have them in stock they are installing them as fast as possible.

But on the login page, it still says

Quote:
Don't throw anything away.
Over 2688.436971 megabytes (and counting) of free storage so you'll never need to delete another message..
Google listened and that's good

But I still don't see why delete buttons are a big deal at all.

Irealise that there is no space driven need to dlete and move to trash is just as good but I do like to get rid of things that I really don't ever want.

teh delte button at the top level instead of going through the little menu would be just a bit easier.

You do understand that the Delete button just moves things to trash, and that's just like delete works in Hotmail & Yahoo, right?

The Delete button has the same functionality as "Move To Trash" in the menu. "Move To Trash" isn't just as good as the Delete button, it's exactly the same as the Delete button.
