App Passwords - versus actual credentials

I had not used the IOS Mail feature (didn't know I could use it with Fastmail). When I went to set it up, the other day, it told me to create an App Password. I have been using Outlook for a decade, and setup up the Fastmail connection a "long" time ago (not that far away either). There is no App Password for it. Should it have one? Is it grandfathered? Does it matter?

Thanks

Eventually, app passwords will be compulsory, even for old devices. It would be prudent to switch to the new imap and smtp servers and app passwords as soon as convenient. However, as you have surmised, use of the account master credentials is being permitted for compatibility reasons during a many years long conversion period.
