Hello,
are you going to update the Runbox Toolbar for Firefox 1.5? |

I am thinking about this toolbox, that no longer works for the newest version of Firefox.

Could someone be more specific? What doesn't work?
I just installed it under FireFox 1.0.7. I don't think Jan is around anymore but I'd be willing to take a look at it. Regards, Rich |

Hello Rich,
I just installed Firefox 1.5 and when I download the Runbox toolbar, I get a popup window that states the following: Runbox Toolbar 1.0 could not be installed because it is not compatible with Firefox 1.5 (Runbox Toolbar 1.0 will only work with Firefox 1.0) Thanks, Tim |

OK. I installed FireFox 1.5 and got the same thing. I'll contact Geir and see if I can get the source code and see what I can do.

Well I was hoping it was just a matter of updating the install package (rmmtoolbar.xpi) information for FF 1.5 but that didn't seem to work. The install now goes but the Runbox Toolbar never actually starts when you restart FF.
So it's going to take me a while longer since it looks like I'm going to need to go through the Runbox Toolbar code to figure out what's going on and fix it. The soonest I can even begin doing that is next weekend. Regards, Rich |

In all liklihood the extension would work under Firefox v1.5, but the version number of the extension will need to be upped in order for FF to allow it to install. All extensions have a range of version numbers coded into them that will allow it to be installed, and if Firefox falls out of that range it refuses to install. The toolbar is probably set as 1.0.x as the highest allowed version, and that needs to be changed to 1.5.x for the new release.
That's assuming, of course, that there have been no underlying changes to Firefox. You can easily test that out by using the extension "Nightly Tester Tools" which allows you to force install an extension, even if the current Firefox version falls outside the extension's limit. |

Yup, looks like that's what did the trick. I used the Nightly Tester Tools extension to force install the toolbar, and I've got it running under Firefox v1.5. Every function I've tried so far seems to work, so there shouldn't need to be any additional compatability updates other than upping the Firefox version number it will install to.
According to Mozilla, the allowed version number you should code for with Firefox v1.5 is "1.5.0.x" https://addons.mozilla.org/faq.php |

That did the trick!
I downloaded the nightly tester and have succesfully installed the toolbar too. Thanks again, Tim |
