in2 won't be down - it will be swamped. We have hardware in the Thor datacentre ready to replace the aging mx2 infrastructure, but it's not fully configured yet - so I hadn't switched over. It's seriously about 2 weeks away, but it got delayed by the switch from 32 bit to 64 bit userland that we're planning to merge with bringing Thor online. At the moment we're still running 32 bit everywhere even though we've got rid of the last machine that didn't support 64 bit. The plan is to bring Thor up fully 64 bit, then backport that to NYI once it's stable.

Not much help now of course - because I only have one lone machine working there, and it's sitting trying to ping into NYI for me so we know when that VPN link comes back up as well...

Yes encouraging to see responses, but not encouraging generally to be at the mercy of an unknown network issue...

Right.
The double "Fastmail down" thread baffled me, so I posted on the wrong one.
Sorry.

Why no status updates or twitter updates?

Hi Fastmail,
I appreciate that you are having a bad day and sympathise with the problems - I appreciate any hard work you are putting in to resolve problems and restore service and I sympathise if 3rd parties are letting you down.

Questions:
- Status update page: http://status.fastmail.fm/
Why are you not updating this regularly with useful information and setting customers' expectations?
- Twitter Account: http://twitter.com/#!/FastMailFM [@FastMailFM]
Why are you not also utilising this account to give some realtime updates?
Do a search for "fastmail" on twitter - you are missing in action!
http://twitter.com/#!/search/FastMail

This forum is a useful place to find out information... and for those who wish to get in-depth info to join in a techy discussion... but I don't understand why you are neglecting these other two channels for getting info out to your customers.
i.e. What's the point of a status page if it doesn't show... status!?

If you can't fix the techie problem (understandable, sympathetic) at least fix the communications/customer service problem (easy to do!).

Cheers, Steve.
