I am always interested to see who at Fastmail is willing to take the time to create these Advent Calendar articles. I regard it as very revealing. We see clearly those who want to engage with the client base, versus those who consider doing so a waste of time.

My favorite poster is Bron. He is a very good writer. His posts are often difficult to completely absorb, but this is because of the subject matter and the fact that he does not patronize us. He inspires confidence, and as long as Bron remains the senior member of Fastmail staff responsible for the backend, I have great faith in its robustness. If you are reading this, thank you to all the authors, and especially Bron.

Hear, hear!

I also always enjoy these posts every year, and appreciate the time the members of the FastMail team take to explain what's going on behind the scenes. As a technical person myself, it's good to get a peek behind the curtain, and it also makes me feel more engaged with the operation of the technology (even though of course I have nothing to do with it at all).

Also, Bron's latest post on Why we don't offer PGP was worth it simply for the link to the hilarious article by James Mickens.

I have seriously not laughed so hard at this kind of nerd humour since the BOFH saga debuted over 20 years ago.

Thanks all

I've got a couple more posts coming up according to the ever-shifting sands of the "advent2016" wiki page. At least one of them should be interesting technical stuff that I haven't been able to find all in one place anywhere else online.

Bron.

(sadly the "better than twoskip" blog post won't be happening, because I keep not having time to actually write and test my theories)

The "DNSSEC & DANE" post has broken the RSS feed. There's an unescaped ampersand in the title.

Hah, sounds like a bug in the RSS generator. In the interests of not trying to fix things late at night, I'm totally just going to edit the title.

(Rogue One was fun, the kids liked it anyway, and that's who Star Wars was always aimed at)

Oh, robn already got in there and fixed it properly. He's just rolling it out now Easy peasy, less work for me. He's on duty tonight anyway (see also taking my kids to the cinema, it's rude to be on call in a cinema)

Synchronized calendars

I just had a quick look through the second 2017 Advent Calendar article, and learned something new: https://blog.fastmail.com/2017/12/02/shared-calendars/

Apparently, FastMail supports server side synchronization of calendars from other services (such as Google). This is an extremely interesting feature which (now I know it exists) I expect to take advantage of.

Is there an option to change the FastMail envelope icon (top left corner) to something else?

https://blog.fastmail.com/assets/201...r/calendar.png

If there is, where is it?

Yes, I do!

My FastMail account is registered as a fastmail.com address, but I hardly ever use that address.

I have my own domains and have gravatars for them already.

Just added a gravatar for my fastmail.com address and I now see it in top left corner.

Thanks Berenburger!
