The carpenter comes to work with his hammer...

I'll be using the old interface right up to the last day.......and here is why:

The carpenter comes to work with his hammer. You tell him, "Hey man, don't use your hammer, use this awesome nail gun". That is reasonable, you just gave him an -option-.

Then you add "I have to take your hammer away from you. No more hammers, you MUST use the new technology".

Now the carpenter must:
- Schedule time to learn the new technology
- Learn how to do tasks the new technology does not do that the old technology did do
- Hope he can do as good a job with the new technology not knowing all its risks, pros, and cons

Sure I get it. Old technology is more expensive to maintain, more prone to security risks, etc. But we as users must bear some of the costs and risks of the transition.

Indeed, I must now spend a few hours reading the "How to transition to the new interface guide", time that nobody is going to compensate me for. There will be many "hey, the old hammer did it this way, but I don't see if or how to do it with the nail gun" moments. That can be pretty unsettling.

I'll leave it to all the naysayers to explain how my hammer analogy fails with email, but on construction sites across the world, they still have and use hammers.

I think a better analogy would use asbestos rather than hammer. There is no doubt that asbestos has some very useful properties, and it would still be used widely in construction if allowed. For good reasons, it has been banned, forcing the use of newer and safer materials.

And my +1 goes to BritTim. This analogy is exactly right.

Why didn't you tell us earlier that using the classic interface can damage your health?

Judging by the way some have reacted here on the forum, it would seem that it's the loss of the classic interface that will cause possible long term damage.
