Is there a function missing or has it been Changed

Is there a function missing?

I thought we had a function in the alias section that we could tick to receive mail from only people in our address book, has this been moved? is it somewhere else now

I don't think it's in the Alias section, but I do know that you can define a Rule with those particular Conditions.

There was definitely a box you could tick.
Wonder what happened to those ticks?
Someone's going to be ticked.

Yes that is what I thought, I suddenly got spam mail to an alias and I was sure I had ticked a box in the alias section so that it only delivered mail to people in my address book.

Perhaps the feature is now somewhere else......

Or we have lost it.

I could see them removing such a feature since I don't much difference between what that did and creating a discard rule for it (or your own sieve code). Puts all your discards in more or less the same place?

We prefer to tick one box instead of ticking lots of silly boxes...

Arrow Better idea for filing messages not from someone in your address book (or a group)

I suggest ignoring that old post I made 5 years ago. I also believe that discarding all messages from senders not in your address book is too dangerous, and it's much better to just send such messages to a specific folder (such as one your create with a name like "Unknown sender"). You can set that folder to auto-discard after a month if you wish. Here is an example rule using the current Fastmail web interface:
  • Settings>Rules
  • New Rule
  • Change the condition to one of these:
    • The message is not from a contact
    • The message is not from a member of group (select a group)
  • Action: Move to: "Unknown sender" (or some other folder you have created to hold such messages)
  • Save

You can have more than one Condition. So you could also apply one, or both, of the conditions that Bill mentions, as well as adding a condition that specifies that alias. I believe you can have only one Action, though I could be wrong..
