Domains.

If you don't have a domain, I'd be happy to point a sub off one of mine to the IP necessary for your webhosting.

Getting your account added with that "subdomain" instead of a normal TLD is between you and Hans, lol.

Ok, it works for me now - please try again, and be sure that the old password is correct (the error messages aren't overly specific, it seems..).

And in general, webhosting questions can be posted here, or emailed to us at support or webhosting @runbox.

Hi Suzi,

You can use the same domain for both webhosting and email hosting with runbox now as well; all you need to do is to change the MX records (back) to mx.runbox.com through cPanel once your account is set up and your nameservers updated.

You can swap domains later I'm sure, but this entails closing the old webhosting account and opening a new one, it seems.

A little comment to this one; I am now hosting three of my domains in the webhosting account. As far as I can see you can host two (2) add-on domains in one account, no need to close the old webhosting account and opening a new one.

You can then add/delete/modify them as you like in the cpanel. A seperate folder for each domain will be added to your public_html folder, where you can put the index.html files.

Webhosting Support

Hi MikhailT,
About webhosting support:

While we are in beta with this webhosting (it's been a success so far) we can probably do some of the support here on the forum. We might have to find a different solution if the volume picks up substantially.

Otherwise there is webhosting @ runbox.com

Runbox Webhosting is standard CPANEL webhosting and there are several good CPANEL forums out there as well.

Regards,
Hans

What are the rules for the password, it is giving me this error

"Your password could not be changed because the new password is it is too simplistic/systematic, please try again!"

I tried letters, caplization, numbers and special characters all at once with min of char at 8. it still will not allow me to change anything.

Hmm. Have you tried something completely random (not containing a word or name you would find in a dictionary), as suggested by the "Choose a hard-to-guess password" section on the Password Maintenance screen?

Hm, I've never gotten that error, with just letters even - if you send me a new password in an email or private message, I can change it for you from here though.

4GB quota

What happens when the 4GB quota is exceeded ?
requests get denied or is there an extra charge then ?
is there a way to get more quota ?

Hi Marc,
4 GB should be enough for private use. We do however plan to offer a premium webhosting pack for professional users and businesses.
If you exceede 4 GB you will be interested to look at the premium web hosting pack.

subdomain progress?

Hello,

I've been out of the loop on this one and was just wondering if there has been any progress with subdomains of runbox.net or runbox.net/username ?

Will [/does] username at runbox dot net work like .com and .no ?

Are there currently any major/significant issues with the beta?

Many thanks.
Gareth.

using dynamic dns web address

Can we use a dynamic dns web address like

test.dyndns.org (dyndns domains are free)

and point it to the IP address of the webhosting server at runbox?

Seems like it would be a free way to use the webhosting feature for runbox subscribers.

No, that won't work. Runbox's hosting service uses a shared IP address to host multiple domains off the same IP address.

Dynamic DNS services are designed to allow you to host a web site off of your home systems. The IP address can change from time to time (that's the dynamic part) but there will always be just one site hosted on the server.

With a shared hosting service using the IP address will typically go to the primary domain hosted on the server.

Rich
