Edwin said elsewhere, speaking about this site : a policy that has served perfectly well since the late 1990s.

There are however several problems with the date, even allowing for a certain vagueness of 'late 1990s'. The first is that first members joined on 19th December 1999. The second is that Edwin himself registered only in August 2001. Third: the emaildiscussions.com name was registered in March 2000.

Question: did the forum exist before Dec. 1999, possibly under some other name? And who was the first administrator - Edwin under a different nickname?
Only curious....

Yes, the forum was under a subdirectory of emailaddresses.com.

And I think it was set up in mid-1999 to late 1999. I know my own user creation date is incorrect because I had to migrate the admin account when I changed forum platforms (or versions - I forget) a year or so after opening the board, and I got the old-to-new account process back to front and before I could reverse it my admin account had all my posts under it but was "created" that instant

Hey, we're talking about a diffrerent millenium!

I found an old "Internet directory" (from the time when people still thought they could put everything one might want to know about the Internet into a small paperback that fits in a pocket) and and emailaddresses.com was there as the major resource on free email addresses.

How things have changed so quickly on the Internet! I have a 1996 Third Edition of "The Internet Yellow Pages". It has no entries at all for email-related sites. Back around then I remember using IP addresses sometimes because URL's didn't always resolve correctly.

The main site began in January 1998, though initially not on its own domain name. I can't remember when it moved to emailaddresses.com, but it was certainly before the end of that year.

IIRC, at one point, the forums were emailaddresses.com/forums and eventually became emaildiscussions.com. Can't recall when.

That's true. My bookmark to this forum has been emailaddresses.com/forums for a very long time. All of a sudden (a couple of months ago) this stopped working...

Change it to emailaddresses.com/forum (no 's' at the end) and it'll work again.
