Spymac SMTP Authentication
I just received this note from Spymac
"This information may affect you if you use a mail client with Spymac Mail. Dear member, Spymac has begun to ask its subscribers to use SMTP authentication when sending mail from a desktop mail client. Spymac will completely switch over to SMTP authorization on Sept 24, 2004. If you are using a desktop mail client like Mail.app or Outlook Express, you must activate SMTP authentication before this time. This does not affect you if you use Webmail or your ISP's SMTP server. If you do not activate SMTP authorization you will no longer be able to send mail using Spymac. If you would like to confirm your mail settings, you can find instructions here for: OS X Mail: http://www.spymac.com/support/index.php?postid=44 Outlook Express for Windows: http://www.spymac.com/support/index.php?postid=46 If this is set up, you should have no problems. This change will also improve the reliability of sending with the Internet's first free 1 GB e-mail. Thank you for using Spymac Mail. -Spymac Technical Support techsupport@spymac.com" Spymac POP3 access has been off and on for me for the last few days. |

Spymac's POP3 feature has been off for me since well, since someone mentioned that Spymac was going to temporarily stop it for free users.
Camille eidt: and I just checked Spymac's POP3 just now just to see if it'll works for me. It did. |

Camille,
Spymac free POP3 was to be turned off while they worked on their servers. But it came back on during following weekend of the announcement. Now it is the normal on and off again |

I have been using Largehotmail. The asterisks mean the service is banned on this forum and not to be discussed. |

I actually stopped checking my spymac account when I get fed up that time whenever it asked for my password. Camille |

the smtp authentication process described in spymac's website didn't even work.
Before they were using pop before smpt, now I had to enter in the field login using, the whole email address and password for it to work. The setting same as incoming mail server did not work. oh well lol |

rgarcia,
I have the settings same as incoming server, and SMTP works. But my login name for incoming server includes the domain name, userid@spymac.com |

hmmm well i can login to spymac with just my username, but not send smtp with just username. I suppose pop accepts both ways? Still according to the posted tutorial it does not indicate using full email address, at least not the one I viewed. oh well lol |
