Anyone having problems with Proxy Servers
I cannot send mail using the proxy server smpts.proxy.fastmail.fm
I am using thunderbird and it ask me for certificicate approval (which it has always done) then it ask me for a password (which it has never done before). Then it rejects may password. Any thoughts? |

Same problem here with smtp proxy server.
No mention of any outage on any of the status web pages. I guess we can chalk this up to our weekly Fastmail outage? I really wish these folks would get the stability issues worked out once and for all... many FREE service have better up time performance. Why am I paying for this service again? |

not sure what you're talking about in terms of weekly outages. for me, FM has been rock solid all year. this is the first major blip I've had.
in my mind, it's only minor. the web interface still works and works well. |

If you check the server status page (which seems to be missing some of the smaller outages), there have been quite a few outages of some type over the past few months.
I pay for a reliable email service. Yes, the web interface may be stable, but for those of us who rely on IMAP/SMTP service, these outages are just not acceptable any longer. Free email providers like Yahoo and Google now offer the same storage as Fastmail, without the bandwidth limitations, and have great reliability (uptime). If Fastmail intends on remaining competitive, the folks running the show need to put more effort into maintaining a reliable system PLUS adding new, desired functionality. |

I just got this from FastMail support. I hope it helps you.
It worked for me. ====================================== Hi, Sorry for that. This was due to a change at our end. Could you try connecting to the IP address 66.111.4.42 instead of smtps server? That should fix it. You can revert back to using the smtps server after around 12-24 hours, by which time your local DNS cache should pickup the changed IPs. Sorry for any inconvenience. Regards, Kurian. |

Actually that's not quite right. I've just let Kurian know that the IP changes weren't the cause of the problem, and you shouldn't need to use a fixed IP, the problem was the SMTP authentication issue as discussed here:
http://www.emaildiscussions.com/...threadid=36437 It should be working now, let me know if you're still having problems. Rob |
