Most embarrassing email moment ?

Hi all,

Thought it might be interesting to share your most embarrassing email moment... The love letter that ended up in the wrong place... The nasty email that got sent to the whole company... attachments that arent there (or are the wrong files), and unfortunate slips of the fingers...etc...

I'm sure we've all done it once or twice...

My biggest mistake was accidently replying to an email for a tutoring job which was sent to a mailing list at uni (when i encountered email for the first time), and unwittingly sent it back to the entire undergraduate population on campus... Telling them what an excellent tutor i'd make, and how good my grades had been so far... Not something i've done since, after the 50 or so flames I got back ....

So who else wants to confess ??

A mate of mine forwarded an email from his office's secretary on to all of us (his mates) saying what a moody cow she was and how it was really annoying to get these frequent emails asking him lick stamps in a certain way and use a certain colour ink. (except, if I remember rightly he was really quite rude about her, and didn't express his thoughts in quite the same way i have )..... and yep, you guessed it, he copied her in on the reply...

She was quite sceptical when he claimed it was a joke, and that he was just messing about....

Red face

Ain't it sometimes terrible when you don't proofread? Once I meant to say to a friend "how are you doing?" but I accidently typed "Who are you doing"

I recently responded to an ad for a job opening via email and in my letter, I told the prospective employer that

"I have good organizational skills and a keen eye for detail. In order to give you a better idea as to my qualifications, I have attached a copy of my resume for your review."

I later discovered that I had overlooked one small but not unimportant detail. I forgot to attach my resume. So much for having a keen eye for detail.

Some time ago I sent off my resume and a link to my portfolio to two weekly papers here. Blah, I write one form letter and just copy and edit it per company I send it to. Cheap, but I don't care. The point is, I sent the letter I made for paper A to paper B, forgetting to change the name of the paper in the body. I got the job - and the following from the Managing Editor: "Nicole, it is a good thing that you were not applying for a copy editor position." Argh. ;-)

I had another similar experience when applying for a job not so long ago...

I had a great speil about how good I was, and what a great asset I would be to the company, then told them to check my attached resume for further information... In my haste to get the
application sent off i completely forgot to add the attachment, and after expousing my literary skills, signed the email off with
"King Regards" ...

needless to say i didnt get the job

An embarassing incident (forgetting to send an attachment) which appears to have occurred to a friend of mine (Nigerian, as it happens, though not in command of untold wealth ):

I think that sending an email without an attachment (when the sole purpose of sending it is to send that file) is so common nowadays that nobody is embarrassed by it anymore. I did it lots of times and never felt embarrassed. Sometimes I embarrass myself by sending an email "from" the wrong address, but I think I'm the only one that notices (and then I am annoyed by getting email sent to that address from people that were not supposed to know about it).

In the organization I work for there is an address allexchangeusers@... used for broadcasting messages to everyone. most people don't have permission to send to that address. Some people have permission because it's their job to send announcement to everyone. Others have permission because they are "important" and despite being quite clueless about using email. So quite often people reply to such an announcement with "reply all" on a private matter, and then the private email conversation is broadcast to everyone.
One time someone sent an invitation to her wedding to a selected list of email addresses. One of them was that organization-wide mailing list, and then, of course, many people accepted the invitation using "reply all", and she had to send an announcement that it was a mistake and not everyone is invited...

Here is an embarrassing email from Ben Baldanza when he hit "Reply All" instead of "Reply" regarding a customer service issue.

Regarding forgetting to include the attachment ---> The Outlook version at my work has some AI which sometimes asks me, "Did you wish to include an attachment?" I don't know what the criteria is for when they ask the question, but it has saved me from the, "Oops. Forgot to attach it" a few times.

Here is a humorous video:

The Fastmail web interface and iOS app discovers references to an attachment when you try to send a message without one. The warning produced is:
Quote:
There may be an attachment missing. You wrote “see attachment”, but there are no files attached.

Send anyway? OK / Cancel

That doesn't work for me as most of the email I send is not in English. Perhaps in the near future they would be able to use some AI that would be capable of much more than looking for keywords in one language.
