Lightbulb Smart subdomain bouncing

I'm not sure if this will apply to your situation, but it would probably make sense to have some logic in the 'bouncer' which would properly bounce messages sent to whatever@username.fastmail.fm (where fastmail.fm = user's home domain) -- above and beyond what's in Personalities.

As for "own domain" bouncing, I'm not sure exactly how this is implemented on FM, but perhaps if FM "knows" about the given domain (I'm assuming this is specified somewhere on FM for Full/Enh folks), then the bouncing engine could take those into account as well when deciding whether to bounce or delete. I'm not sure what shows in To and X-Delivered-To for such messages though.

Maybe someone more knowledgeable on the own-domains issue can add to this.

My domain is not handled by fastmail, only email is forwarded to fastmail. So fastmail doesn't know it.

Most helpful for new users

-after new interface screen in place

-referred to in some replies
http://www.emaildiscussions.com/...&threadid=5841 ... thread

- ~ site navigation page making it easier to locate what is already available

- ~ FAQ etc a single html file that can be downloaded, read offline and printed

- Think should also help FastMail greatly - less active support time required ?

Hi,

Was this feature ever implemented? I'd love to be able to use the Bounce feature on the emails I collect from my Hotmail account even if it doesn't actually deter spammers all that much.

No. After doing much of the necessary mail server work, we discovered an extra complexity that isn't yet resolved (although we've worked out a way around it now).

However, this is mainly useful for aliases/virtual-domains/subdomains, not POP/Hotmail/forwarded addresses, where finding the true original address will generally not be possible even with the new code.

Thanks for the incredibly speedy reply.

And yes, your point that most spam addresses are forged is well taken. Your point about using it with aliases, subdomains etc. is interesting; I use the subdomain feature so I look forward to you implementing the bounce feature from any address.

I think the point was that it's difficult or impossible to find what was on the envelope when a message arrives via POP or fowarding. So it's hard to know what address an e-mail was actually sent to.

"Overhaul of Mailbox screen interface" which got the highest vote is aleady done, so FM must be into "File/folder sharing" now. Is that the one which includes own personal website?

Actually we're currently working on developing co-branding/business/family products. Some of the people signing up for the co-branding service estimate that they'll have over a million customers, so we're also doing some work on further improving our ability to scale rapidly. This should be all done by the end of October, when we'll get back on to interface/feature enhancements. I think improving the address book (including address book synchronization, adding more fields, making it searchable, and improving address book access on the Compose screen) would be our first priority then.

File storage would likely be next. However this is unlikely to provide a publicly accessible web-site at least in the first version (we'll start by just providing a file storage area accessible only from your web account, and maybe also through DAV).

Thanks for the update.

Looks like a good plan to me. I agree that being able to select multiple entries from the address book in a much easier way is more important. Address book synchronization also would be cool.

I guess you can't look at the X-LinkName header to handle this, then?

Most of the spam I get at least has the correct To: address specified...

I suppose that could help you to guess--see if any To/Cc matches pop_username@pop_servername... I hadn't thought of that before.

Another thing I'd like to see is a notes field in the address book, similar to that of Outlook, so you can record generic details about a given contact.
