Mail2world question
I tried messing with the plain translation function on mail2world, and it didn't work. Is the tranate e-mail function the same way? Has anyone ever tried it?

M2W Translation
I've used the translator, and when it works it is OK. It is sometimes down, tho. Keep in mind that it is a machine traslation - generally understandable to the recipient, but far from perfect. It also doesn't take into account regionalisms and dialects. English/Spanish translations, for example, will probably sound more acceptable in, say, Spain than in south Texas. However, it is acceptable in getting the general message accross. It works best if you use short simple sentences, don't use contractions, and don't use slang and regionalisms.
What is fun to do on this site is to take a phrase or short paragraph and type it in in English. Translate it into any language. Copy the result, then paste it in again. Have it translated back into English. Like playing telephone, you can translate it thru a number of different languages and then see how it comes out again. The web site http://www.tashian.com/multibabel/ does something similar. M2W also will translate into Arabic. People get taken aback when they get an email in Arabic - LOL - especially if you use a "user@mail2afghanistan.com" address. |

mail2world is a great service, indeed!
I used to use Hotmail but was getting tired of the 2MB limit on the mailbox. I also used to use Yahoo mail for a greater mailbox capacity but did not really like its mail features and layouts. I think Hotmail is a better email than Yahoo in terms of features and layouts, but not capacity.
Therefore, I started looking for an alternative which would give a good mailbox capacity with easy-to-use email features and layouts. I've found mail2world.com via emailaddresses.com and found it to be the best free email compared to the rest. Their mailbox capacity of 10MB is very generous with outstanding features and layouts that so many other email services lack. Exactly what I've been looking for. I would like to thank Edwin for promoting such a great service in the site's spotlight. I sure will let all my friends know about mail2world's great products after I have completely tested out their services. Finally, I want to say to grg that he should be ashamed of himself about what he said about getting an email in Arabic. It's a shame if we start profiling people and discriminating against them just because a misguided group of them did a terrible act. |

One thing that I found interesting in m2w is some of the buttons are image buttons, while other are plain button. Also, it is hard to view the sender email address, unless you hover your mouse to sender link. The view full header is rather unorganise. All in all, m2w is a good service but still have room for improvement. Those who like usa.net will find themselves easily accustom to m2w. Last edited by Lvsheng : 11 Nov 2001 at 10:16 PM. |

I think it may already by clear to most people reading this thread, but M2W is in the "Spotlight" on the front page because I earn (sadly too little) money from the placement via their affiliate program.
That Spotlight position is an ad-supported one, just like the top and bottom banners on the site. That's not to say that their service is bad, but simply that there's no "official seal of approval" from Emailaddresses.com. Sometimes I kick myself for being so honest - now fewer people may try and sign up for them Edwin |

Regarding the comment I made in the last paragraph in an earlier reply - IT WAS SAID FACETIOUSLY for goodness sake! I went back and reread my post, and I don't see any mention or intimation of profiling or discrimination of anyone. It was a simple statement of fact.
I've tried out the various email translations available on M2W before to see how they worked, looked, and translated. The Arabic option is fairly new, so I tried it out. I sent an email translated into Arabic to a friend of mine. She was taken aback - most of us in English speaking world in the US are not used to getting mail in Arabic, and quite frankly, many are gunshy at this point. So please, Nattanont, don't make elaborate assumptions based on a brief comment. There are any number of boards where politics and religion are hot topics - I'd be happy to carry this further at one of them. However, this is an email board. I am sure that Edwin would like us all to stay on topic. |

More than 10MB??
lvsheng: you stated that "many other email svcs. offer far more than 10MB"
I'm quite new to all of this and have been spending a lot of time searching for just that feature and hope you can give me as many specific suggestions as possible. I've read enough in various parts of this forum to know that you and many others are very knowledgeable about all of this, and I know I'm in way over my head, but..... aside from zapo.net, any of those over 10MB are either webhosting sites (like diganet) rather than email or the signup process is off-putting and unsuccessful (sanriotown and graffiti) that I still haven't been able to figure out what's going on. Do you know of any others in the 20+ category where someone can actually manage to successfuly sign up without tearing their hair out?? |

Have you tried FastMail.FM yet, Niteowl? 100MB quota, at least for the next few months. And as we've described in our forum even when we go to a paid service for large accounts there will be options to get free service for those who can't afford to pay.

Mmm, 20++mb, and successful sign up, that reduced some option.
Magicaldesk offer 60mb, but no sign up. Diganet 25mb, not reliable. Runbox 100mb, need to pay one. Fastmail 100mb, still remain free. Emoka is also okay, I forgot the exact storage they offer, but I remember is about 100mb. If you are a chinese, you can have a look at mail.gigigaga.com. It offer you 50mb storage. Well this is all big mail that I can recall now. I will tell you more, if I remember some more. |

20+MB--Still searching........
To lvsheng--thanx for yr. efforts so far, but it appears that another one bit the dust---I assume that you meant www.emoka.com??
Typed that into my browser and was taken to a domain registry site with a prominent display of "domain name 4 sale--emoka.com" Unfortunately, I'm not chinese but they sure have a pretty interface, albeit no english translation. If you thought of any others in the meantime, I'd sure appreciate it--maybe your statement about "many others" was a little overly optimistic, d'ya think?? If anyone else wants to chime in with other suggestions, feel free--I could use every bit of help anyone has to offer--TKY |

Magical Desk
Tho Magical Desk may no longer be taking signups, they do power the Personal Office of the Financial Times. I couldn't determine how much email storage they offered, but they do offer 15 mgs of file storage.
