FYI: Purging trash
For Your Information:
Messages stored in your default' Trash folder that are older than one month will be deleted shortly. The trash folder will be purged for everything older than one month regularly. If you should want to keep any email from your trash folder you want to file them in a different folder. Thank you. |

Make sure all documentation gets properly updated on this ASAP.
I don't think people should use Trash for holding messages but if they've gotten use to not having automatic deletion this is a BIG change. I really think you should also consider sending a notice to all users for changes like this. You should probably include the price increase information too. Regards, Rich |

Hmm, what's the reason for this decision?
Does it bring any advantages for your customers? Your IMAP server is damn slow and and you are taking care of my trash folder? So if you have no ideas for useful features, maybe you can checkout the fastmail forum or listen to your customers... Last edited by zapata : 28 Oct 2005 at 03:35 AM. |

(1) Free up disk space. Now that we all get 10G a lot of unwanted messages (which is what the Trash should be) could consume a lot of space if you don't empty the trash very often (which I don't). (2) Free up MySQL database entries. Every message has an entry in the MySQL database they use. I assume that the bigger the database gets the slower the performance might get. So deleting unnecessary entries might help to keep performance from getting sluggish. Rich |

So they give us 10GB, but we are not allowed to use it?
Have you ever trashed an e-mail that you later want to look up? So what's the difference between moving my e-mails to trash or to a folder called "søppel"? |

Why the automatic purging of mails in the trash folder? Why am I not allowed to fill up my 10GB with messages stored in my trash folder, if I like to? And what if you trash an e-mail accidentially but don't realize in time? It's gone. If it's an feature that you can enable/disable in the account manager maybe it's useful to some users. I don't think there's anything unusual about autodeleting Trash after 30 days. That's pretty typical I think. It's just that Runbox users aren't use to autodeleting of Trash. Regards, Rich |

Let's see 2.5 GB of bandwidth per week. That's 10GB in 4 weeks or 28 days. Yep. You can use all your 10GB as Trash within 30 days. ..... They aren't limiting your 10GB of space. They are auto-deleting the Trash after 30 days. Which is a feature that has been asked for a number of times. It would be nice to have a configurable delete frequency (e.g. "never", "1 week", "30 days", "60 days"). You could suggest it as an enhancement to the "30 day" delete. Regards, Rich |

Just in case anyone is interested, my Trash folder currently has 63M of messages going back to August 2004. Not because there is anything in there I might want ... I just don't delete my Trash very often.

I think fastmail doesn't.
And other e-mail providers which I used in the past gave me the option to automatically empty the trash folder after a period of time. So why is Runbox enforcing this? With 10GB of storage (1% used) why do they have to empty my trash folder. It's none of their business. If I run out of space, just bounce incoming messages! And no, I don't give them permission to do so! |
