Zoho went down today
They are apparently back up. Their domain registrar took them down. https://downdetector.com/status/zoho...oblems-at-zoho

More of the story: https://techcrunch.com/2018/09/24/zo...ints-ceo-says/
I can see the lawyers gearing up for the court battle now...But, seriously, this is why I think any business of almost any size should only go with the largest and most established email providers, especially if you also rely on them for your office suite/cloud storage/etc. |

But aren't they part of those "largest and most established email providers"? They're definitely not a small player or recently established provider whose long term future is uncertain… They're actually even recommended as email provider by some external parties (= non-email providers). Zoho may not be Gmail or Hotmail/Outlook/Microsoft, but still they're not an obscure minor player neither...

IMHO only G Suite and Microsoft are worth considering if your business is dependent on email.

What about private (non business) users? You think they too should be better off sticking to the big players?

For me, yes, I prefer using services that are the most reliable and secure for my main email accounts. I have found them to be the least hassle and the best value in the long run. However, I also use some smaller email services for various things that are less critical. I have been using Gmail since 2006 and have never experienced a major outage or failure of the service to work properly. Their spam filters are superior to anything else too.

My biz mail hostings are g-suite and fastmail.
both are solid enough from my experience. I have tried many others such as runbox, tuffmail, mailbox.org, 1and1... not as good as the above. |

Another article on the Zoho issue. Twitter indicates some people are still having problems reaching zoho.com. https://www.zdnet.com/article/domain...r-30mil-users/

I'm sure there are two sides to the story.

That's true about the cloud, but in my experience I have had many more instances of my own equipment and software failing than I have had of the failure of major cloud services.

You have my assurance that nothing like this will ever happen again. We will not let our fate be determined by automated algorithms of others. We will be a domain registrar ourselves. (just did google and seen it) |

Of particular interest was this: Somehow this automated algorithm decided to shut down the Zoho domain based on these 3 cases—without prior warning of the shutdown, or investigation into the traffic supported by this domain. Which poses the question, are there others that have fallen foul of this algorithm? Zoho surely can't be unique. |
