The reason I keep on this is because those mock-ups were pretty slick.

But the reason others keep on is the usability of the current interface.

It could look better and still retain the usability. This is what I'm hoping for.

perhaps F/m can have 2 systems the old one on a different server as it would be terrible to get stuck with something we may not like.

This is a good idea. Is it possible that they could implement the new interface on the beta site, but not the regular site? (or a similar idea?)

I'm currently stuck using something I don't like. It's not that bad. It's UGLY, but functional.

Maybe the tables will turn with the new mockups, where there's a change of who get's to use what they don't like.

I'm quite confident that this is what they have in mind.

I don't think this is good for the long run though I'm sure this will be the situation during the testing of the new interface when there will be one.

You know, it wouldn't be hard to emulate the current interface with the new HTML.

I will be pleasantly surprised if we see this in 2008.

Yes, please implement mock up interface on beta server. Then people may decide which to use.

Any update on the progress of the new interface, in terms of development and/or projected timeline?

And when I log into GMail it is still beta (after many programmers working over many months). These large projects do take a while, and Fastmail has only a fraction of the resources of Google. However, we users have the advantage of being able to interact with the developers at Fastmail and get a unique result.

Knowing FM's track record and M.O., I'll just agree w/DrChadwick at this point.

This is a quote from Rob's post of April 9th 2008:
Quote:
The new mockups are actually being worked on by Richard at the moment. Basically Richard was working on the business/family stuff, which with all the tweaks we've had to add took longer than expected. I believe most of the mailbox and compose screens are done, and he's working on the view message screen right now. Neil will be working for us again over his summer break to finalise the design. Unfortunatly as with most of these things, the first 90% takes 90% of the time, the final 10% takes the other 90% of the time. It's always the polishing that takes more time than you think...

Rob
Neil is from the UK. Summer there is in June/July/August.
