FM and Fastcheck E-mail Notifier
Hello,
I was looking around the EMD Forums the other day. Is anyone using Fastcheck E-mail Notifier to check their FM account? http://www.fastcheck.org/ Just curious Thanks, David ** I realize and understand there are other e-mail notifiers available** |

This tool is popular with a lot of us here, David. As Sherry says, I can't imagine my email with it either! FastCheck caused me to change from using an email client to Fastmail web mail.
For some reason, Eric hasn't been putting his recent beta releases on the download screen. I have been very happy with the v2.0.0.2 beta, which was released via a post on the FastCheck.org website on July 18, 2009. This version (and some other earlier v2 versions) fixed some bugs which several of us had reported to Eric earlier this year. The link is: http://www.fastcheck.org/download/FastCheck_2_0_0_2.exe You can set FastCheck to notify you by playing a sound file when a new message arrives. You can also have it store your Fastmail login information (username and password) so you can log in quickly to your email. For example, I have it set up to log in directly to my Fastmail email when I double-click the taskbar icon. You can right-click the taskbar icon to see a long list of features. You set everything up in the Options menu. Bill |

I wanted a piece of software to monitor my FM account as I start to phase out my soon-to-be former e-mail provider and start the transition over to FM as my primary e-mail provider. This software seems to do the trick- I downloaded an earlier version from the website today. Any idea why most of the forum posts for Fast Check are at least two years old or more? Is there any type of mailing list, etc to know when new versions go into production for this software? Thanks, David Last edited by EdinwolfPA : 14 Nov 2009 at 12:11 PM. Reason: minor edit to post |

Eric (the author of FastCheck) pops in these forums from time to time, and he checks his own forum. I have communicated with him from time to time about bugs, and he has been very responsive. He also keeps in contact with Fastmail staff when there are changes which affect FastCheck. On the FastCheck Window (which shows your current unread messages and has various other features) there is a Help screen which can check for the latest version. But for some reason I don't think this will find the latest beta version (which works very well and fixes various bugs).

You can right/click on the little icon in the system tray and click on Options. Then on the left side click on Notification. Then you will see the choice to check mark "Play sound" then browse to the sound file you want to use by clicking on the three little dots to the right. That should do it.

Yes, the sound feature is great! I have a little Monty Python humor here every time a new message arrives. See this post and thread.

New version up!
Hi,
I've just put a new version of FastCheck up. More information here. Remember: always download FastCheck from www.FastCheck.org and not from any other site! Eric |
