Lightbulb SMTP-only passwords

Hi,

I'm setting up a web cart (Zen Cart) with a friend of mine, and I'm using my FM account to send emails. This means I have to enter my FM account password in Zen Cart. I'd like to create an SMTP-only password, but at the moment with the "alternative logins" if I create an additional password I have to give it full access in order to enable SMTP - which defies the purpose (especially given that Zen Cart by default doesn't hide the password - I'm going to change that).

So would it be possible to add SMTP-only passwords, or, alternatively, instead of the "Full" checkbox, having individual checkboxes for web, FTP, SMTP, IMAP/POP, and Full Admin?

Thanks

SM

I fully support this request !

I am using the fastmail smtp server in a custom application (because it allwos sending over port 80), and it would be very convenient if I could create a password with access to the smtp server only.

And indeed, checkboxes for individual access would be even greater.

I've requested it too. Even though I'm not currently using that system anymore, I'd love for this feature to be added. I'm sure I'll want it again someday.

And I also really like the idea of the checkboxes.

We liked the idea so much that it was originally planned when the alternate passwords feature was made Thanks for bringing it up to the surface again, it's been recorded in our new bug tracking system.

Ah, I suspected something like this was recently put in place
Good move !

(I guess there isn't a change of opening (part of ) the bug tracking system up for public?)

Just a quick note: if this would be developed, maybe also support for a checkbox for address book only access (for Jeremy's address book syncing tool)

General UserData access - Jeremy's address book tool uses UserData SOAP API. Otherwise, if one selects wich services a password shall be valid for, it'd be very good indeed.

Don't hold your breath, it's been discussed for as long as we've had one at Opera There are pros and cons...

Any progress on this (smtp only password) Johan?

(as I really would feel more comfortable - security-wise - seeing this implemented. And these are the kind of features fastmail CAN make a difference.)

FYIO: I am tired of waiting for this. For my SMTP only password requirement, I've switched to google's 2-step verification, because it then allows application specific passwords. I've generated one for my custom application, entered it in its settings file and changed to email settings to use google's smtp server.

Me too!

The current approach of "either full access or not" is not granular enough. I would love to be able to specify which passwords work with which services: IMAP (check) SMTP (check) address book (check) files/webdav (check) etc.

But what's the point of multiple passwords? Do you have an office full of minions working for you, one allowed only to send messages via SMTP, another authorised only to fetch them via IMAP, another in charge of only your address book?
