Why start a new thread?
Because it's not great to plow through a lot of old opinions, and sometime newer people will ignore a thread when they see it's that old.

Does Mailfence store emails encrypted at rest?

Mailfence has been promising to add an option for full encryption at rest of the entire inbox and all emails. However, as of now, this is not an option and your inbox is not stored encrypted at rest.

Not sure what exactly is encryption at rest but other competitors like PM and Tuta do support this afaik.

True that the Mailfence team has been promising this for a while, and they've been working on it -- but it's been taking longer than they originally hoped. As of May 2022, Mailfence has said, "Encryption at rest is at the top of our priorities and is presently is testing phase. It will be included in the coming months"

For what that's worth, take that however you need to, of course. I have been personally impressed with Mailfence, and have no hesitation to recommend them. However, if you need encryption at rest immediately, then that's obviously a no-go for you right now.

Emails encrypted at rest means that the emails that you have in your account are encrypted while they are stored on the server. This way, an attacker who get access to the server is unable to read the emails that are stored.

Microsoft and Google (and a lot other email providers) encrypt the emails at rest. However this is not end-to-end encryption, when there is encryption at rest the server administrator holds the keys and can decrypt the messages. Encryption at rest is usefull against an external attacker who gain access to the server.

There are all kinds of reasons to start a new thread, one being whether the previous one was started a long time ago or whether it's already too big.
