I've gotta say I've read the posts on the Pobox subject, but IMHO can't see the point.

It seems an unnecessary expense in 2012.

I know, for a lot here, you wax lyrical about Pobox - and that's perfectly fine - it works for you.

Many of us feel the same way about Fastmail. We wax poetic about it (as it was ten years ago) but don't see the point of it in this day and age

Huh? Why is FastMail less relevant now?

Fastmail was 'one of a kind', a dozen years or more ago. It shone above the rest! Today it is just another Webmail client that struggles among the many.

I'm a Pobox user since 2001.
It has never let me down.
Couldn't be more happy.
Probably the best online deal I have ever made

Unique email addresses when signing up for online things also make it really easy to pinpoint if someone leaks your address, if such things interest you. Address extensions can kind of do that, but a bad actor can easily strip the extension, too.

As I understand PoBox a user could use only email services that permitted changing From Line to PoBox. Is this correct?

That is correct. Many (if not all) email clients also allow you to change the 'from line' So, if you you are using your ISP's webmail 'that does not allow this' you can always use a client.

Does the FastMail web interface allow that?

So does that mean one desn't need to pay for FastMail to host mail for one's domain name?

You have to pay for one of Fastmail's account types that provides for email services for your own domain. The account is not free.

if pobox the basic account (20USD per year) provides a basic storage and webmail, it will get more people's interest.
