It appears that the $9.60 one time fee has been increased to $14.95 for member accounts...has this changed? Or does it take effect 4/18?

Yes, we sent everyone an email about that on March 28. Here's the relevent bit:
Quote:
Firstly, by upgrading now, you'll pay less. Membership currently costs
just US$9.60 one-time fee, with no regular subscription fee at all. In 3
*days*, the price will be increasing to US$14.95. If you upgrade to
membership now, you'll get the lower price locked in.

Thanks Jeremy,

I never got that email. I've never deleted anything from you guys, and I have 3: a 3/6 on upcoming changes, a bandwidth warning, and the 4/3 scheduled maintenance message.

I'm mostly dissapointed because I've been bragging about your $10 plan, and it turns out I've been wrong--that and I didn't get my wife in before the increase.

Ah well, it's still a bargain, and kodos for making the announcement ahead of time, even though I seem to have missed it.

Dave,

I get the impression you are already a member of fastmail. I believe that mail was only sent to guest accounts. It was mentioned and discussed on this forum. I hope in the future things like this will be sent by mail to everyone who selected 'chatty'.

Exactly right, nic76. I upgraded to Full before this change came info effect. That would explain why I never got the message.

If that's what happened, it's an understandable oversight, but an unfortuante one. I agree with your assessment that it should have been sent to all (I might have sent it even beyond those who'd marked "chatty,") as it was an unusual change, in that it was implemented before 4/18.

We sent this out before we had the Communication Frequency popup. I was concerned about bothering people who had already signed up with information that most of them would find redundent.

In the future 'chatty' people will get most messages.

Thanks for the explanation Jeremy.

I had supposed that if I signed up as "chatty," I'd get every material annoucement, so it didn't even occour to me to check for changes on this.

FWIW, I think I would be more concerned about bothering people if you didn't give the option to scale down from chatty (tho your desire to not bombard us is appreciated.)

An alternative--send emails with links to threads here where you explain stuff in more detail. Then we can look at a glance to see what we want to be updated on.

Exactly. The thing is that this option didn't exist back when the announcement was sent out. Now that it does exist, we don't have to worry any more!

If we sign up folks today for a full account setup fee is still waved, correct?

And, if we later downgrade them to member (e.g. if my wife isn't using full feature set), then there's no additonal fee paid, correct?

If I get this right, then techinically, we'd now save a few $ if we signed up for 6 months of full before 4/18, then downgraded to member within 6 (12.95) versus just doing member from out set..have I got it?

Thanks, Dave

That's all correct. The 6-month thing is a loophole we'll be removing shortly, BTW.

do you mean the "Use your own domain names" entry. Currently at pricingtbl it implies these are per month charges....

Or am i getting the wrong end of the stick?

You're not getting the wrong end of the stick--the /month was added *after* Elvey pointed this out.
