Outlook 2019

Anyone know how to add the Fastmail calendar to Outlook 2019 in Windows 10?

Unless things have changed, my recollection is that MS Outlook does not support CalDAV out of the box. Before doing anything else, you will need to find and install a CalDAV plug-in for Outlook. I do not know which one works best these days.

Once you have added CalDAV support, look here for some information that should help add the FastMail calendar: https://www.fastmail.com/help/techni....html#calendar

Thanks. Maybe someone will have a suggestion for a plug-in.

Mike
I have tried the following Outlook CalDAV synchronizer and it seems to work for me so far:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/out...vsynchronizer/
  • Click Download and save the Zip file.
  • The installation instructions are at:
    https://sourceforge.net/p/outlookcal...zer/wiki/Home/
  • After installation, start Outlook. You should see "CalDav Synchronizer" at the top bar. Click this tool then double-click Synchronization Profiles.
  • I use:
    • Name: Fastmail Calendar
    • Outlook folder: Calendar
    • Check "Synchronize items immediately after change"
    • DAV URL: https://caldav.fastmail.com
    • Username: (your Fastmail email login address)
    • Password: Your app-specific password for Outlook. You cannot use your regular Fastmail password!
    • Email address: (your Fastmail email login address)
    • Click Test or discover settings. This checks the CalDAV connection.
    • Synchronization mode: Choose how you want to synchronize -- I'm using Outlook <-- Server (Replicate)
    • Synchronization interval (minutes): I'm using 30 minutes
  • This tool also works with CardDAV for synchronizing your Fastmail contacts with Outlook. Repeat the instructions above with these changes:

Crash

Everything seemed to work fine until I restarted Outlook. It say the app has a problem and won't let me enable the plug-in even after I reinstall it. I guess I would have to clean the registry. Very frustrating, I had high hopes. My system is Win 10 64 bits and Outlook 2019.

I'm using Windows 10 64-bit OS and have Outlook 32-bit installed. But I'm pretty sure this add-on was developed and tested for both 32-bit and 64-bit Outlook versions. My guess is that you need to update to the latest .NET framework or repair your current .NET framework. Try:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down....aspx?id=30135

You can also try installing the latest .NET framework. Select Download .NET Framework Runtime at:
https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download

Outlook can be repaired using:

No problems with net. I am not running Office 365 so a little nervous with my standalone app.

Unfortunately not. Had to abandon its use.

Bill, thanks so much for this run-down of the plugin. I just discovered it recently and came here to the FM forum to see if anyone else had experience with it. I'm glad to see it's being used by others here.

BTW, in the changelog for this plugin, I just saw a recent update a couple weeks ago: "Add profile type for FastMail." Perhaps that'll make setup for FM users that much easier.

I'm looking forward to trying it out soon, as I'd like to begin using the FM Calendar, yet also to sync it locally.

I've been using this plugin successfully for a few weeks now. I'm happy with it. (I'm on Win7 Pro, with Outlook 2010.)

For anyone else coming to this thread while considering this plugin, here are a few more tidbits I learned that may help:

* n5bb/Bill links above to the Sourceforge page for the plugin, but from there you can find the link to the main project website, which includes good documentation, install notes, changelog, etc. Actually, here it is: https://CalDAVsynchronizer.org/

* n5bb/Bill specifies above a type of 1-way sync. For my needs, I've been successfully using the 2-way/bidirectional sync option.

* In addition to the required minimum .NET Framework being installed (4.6.2 may be minimum), there's also the requirement of MS Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime. I'm running v10.0.60828, which is above the minimum required. I downloaded it from the MS site somewhere.

* I heavily use the notes/comments field of calendar invites, including deep rich text formatting. I knew going into this that FastMail seems to only support plain text for the comments field. The plugin appears to cleanly strip out formatting and distill content down to plain text after syncing (and also spell out any embedded hyperlinks).

* I use category colors for my events in Outlook. Colors don't appear in the FastMail calendar, but even after remote editing of events from within FastMail, the event category colors back in Outlook seem to remain intact after syncing back to Outlook. (There is some potential customization of color mapping in the docs and advanced settings that I did not explore.)

That's about it. This is a nice handy tool.
