[serious] trying to migrate from gmail. request for help
hello,
i have been trying to migrate from gmail for almost a year now. tried to setup my own mail server but it seems like quite a hassle to operate. technically speaking i want to host my own email server but it does seem like a learning curve. i really like roundcubes UI and would like to setup my emails to work with roundcube. i am also looking to have customized functions to run on my mail server as follows:- 1. widespread bcc for all emails to backed up by the server 2. restrict some emails to be only allowed to send emails locally 3. auto-mail routing based on subject . Please help suggest a good tutorial for setting up a mail server or advise me solution provider. Appreciate if someone could help me here. Thanks! Kevin |

I am becoming more and more enamored with how MXroute has integrated RoundCube with ownCloud. You also have the option to access RoundCube webmail interface sans ownCloud if so desired. A definite win-win situation.

Going from GMail to setting up your own email server is going from one extreme to the other. I would suggest you try out something inbetween.

Hi Kevin,
What type of mail server can you best support? A Linux based mail server within a hosting package somewhere? A Windows based mail server on your home PC? Both are going to have pros/cons depending on your skill set and probable restrictions on your home internet connection. If you choose Linux, try following the guides for Life with qmail, then add the dovecot imap server, and your choice of webmail that supports connecting to accounts with IMAP. What about migrating away from Gmail are you stuck on? Are you having a problem migrating email already delivered at Gmail to a new email account? There are IMAP Migration Tools for Linux that work great and can help copy/move email between email accounts. |
