Nope. Has to be an outlook.com address now.

Existing live.com and hotmail.com addresses work just fine for logging in and sending or receiving email. But new aliases must be at the outlook.com domain.

Thanks n5bb and 541. I used to have a live dot com address and would have liked to go back to it.

Well ... yes and no ... you can create a new Microsoft account at these domains:
  • hotmail.com
  • outlook.com
But if you log into that account, you can only create a new alias (10 are available per account) at this domain:
  • outlook.com
If you already have an active Microsoft account which has email at the following domains as the account address or an existing alias at that account, any of these will work for logging in, sending email, or receiving email:
  • outlook.com
  • hotmail.com
  • live.com
  • msn.com (I think this is still true, but I can't test it)
So if your live.com alias is still good at a valid Microsoft account, you can still use it.

I was doing some searching regarding the o/p's post, yesterday. From what I gathered, the rules (regarding what you can and cannot create) vary, depending on where in the world you live.
