Passkeys now work for Google accounts
You can now choose to log in to your Google account using passkeys instead of a password. https://9to5google.com/2023/05/03/go...ount-passkeys/
Can't wait for this to become more widespread. |

Google automatically added my phone as a passkey, and I added a FIDO2 hardware key as a second passkey. I am curious to find out if this really will reduce the number of occasions when I will need to enter a password.

Passkeys are different than that automatic adding of your phone as a 2FA option. Same with Yubikeys. There is now a new option to use your phone as a passkey, meaning you won't need a password or the 2FA options on the account. Though, for now they want you to leave the passwords and options, and they claim they will add additional scrutiny to logins that use the password when you have the passkey option turned on. Not ideal until you can eliminate the fallback options.
