Email is your electronic memory

Interesting read from the FastMail Blog:

Sometimes you write planned blog posts, sometimes events in the news are a prompt to re-examine your values. This is one of those second times.

FastMail does allow you to change messages you receive in one way, so messages are not totally immutable. You are allowed to delete attachments. Admittedly, a placeholder showing the attachment once existed does replace it.

Interesting blog post, but it remains to be seen exactly how amp-ed emails will work in Gmail, and whether you can opt out if you don't want to see them. One thought about this is will organizations create the emails that will include the amp features? The biggies certainly will, but many places struggle now just to create decent looking emails that work. It might also prompt many people to simply ignore many of the emails on the Gmail promotional tab. Ordinary messages from people you know and work with won't use amp. Amp won't work in other email clients and services, unless supported. I agree that we don't want to lose the ability to communicate with anybody, anywhere, which is one of the main features of email. It's why I ignore all the messaging apps. SMS is universally used by everyone here in the USA, even if they use a messaging app. Lots of questions about amped emails.
