Both -- for different reasons

My first email address was Hotmail, which is my real first and last name, so it's my "serious" email address. I have another name for my Yahoo! address. I like Yahoo! a lot more cuz there's so many more fun features. I have commented on them before in this Forum.

I'd say Yahoo, not for its email service - although it's okay - but for its other free services, such as briefcase, photos, etc. Personally, I don't like the sound of the name but I use it because almost everyone knows yahoo or hotmail - so they don't have to ask me twice or thrice for me to spell the domain name. But, if anyone could answer my question, I'd appreciate it very much - what's puzzling me is that if Yahoo is losing money - advertisements don't pay - why do they still offer many services at the free level?

Yahoo's not bad, it was my first web address and POP retrieval service.

I think that Hotmail sucks now, especially as there is no free POP retrieval, which is something I really need to have because of working abroad with other universities, and because of my own business. But like the fool I am I stick with it because I like having my full name as my email address!

Mind you, I'm using Mail2World, more and more now.

Thumbs down Neither, lolz.

If you can help it, go for FastMail, GMX, or VFEmail.

...If you must...go with Yahoo...I guess?

There ARE better alternatives out there people, you just have to spread the word!

Someone just asked me that. They wanted a free account specifically, so I recommended Fastmail's guest account, Mail2world, that virus free e-mail, which I haven't used but a lot of people recommend, and coolgoose, which I haven't used enough to have a strong opinion but it's kind of cute and has a notifier that you can download.

Yahoo! for now, at least they have a larger mailbox...

But if you have MSN as ISP, I would say Hotmail...

Yahoo
  • not dependent on OE as a client
  • 3 times larger mailbox
  • calendar is better IMHO
  • spam - same name at Yahoo.ca & Hotmail.com . 0 spam versus 600-1200
  • I can always sign up at passport.net using my Yahoo address if I want to use MSN Messenger
  • ca.geocities.com webspace supports ftp
