Hello:
Does the message "Fastmail is down for maintenance, for 5 minutes" appear every time the system fails; for whatever reason? Dave |

Bah. Looks as if it's been tens of minutes already, anyway. Oh, well, I need to get to work anyhow; this just means I don't hear from my sweetie until tonight. Bah. Still, it's not like employers can't find me. My sympathies, Carol; I did a 7-month unemployment last year and it really sucked.

Sorry about that. Well, Rackspace have now fixed the problem, as you've already noticed.
No emails were lost--they're queued during outages and delivered once it's up. I didn't have a chance to look into admin.fastem.com. It's on a different network, in a different continent. So if it was down at the same time, then I think that's just a bizarre coincidence--the two servers do not share any infrastructure of any kind. They even run a different OS! |

Lost emails?
Now that it's back up, is it possible to tell if any incoming emails were lost?

Sorry. We were posting at the same time. No emails lost. Great.
Thanks, Eric |

What's your SLA with Rackspace, Jeremy? And when do the penalties kick in?

30 minutes in 3 years is not bad, Jeremy.
Unless you have other issues with them, maybe you could just pick up your penalties for this round and ask them to give you a writeup on their 'lessons learned'. Or you could also use this as an opportunity to renegotiate. Good luck. |

The reason I've been sending out some RFPs this week is that we're looking to move from managed hosting to colo, because we get more control that way. Also, Rackspace's prices have been increasing a lot, to the point where I think that they're getting unreasonable. |

So i'm still getting the "Cannot connect to Pop/Hotmail retrieve system" message--
do I need to change something now in my settings? or Is this something related to the 'outage'? thanks! |
