Even now, although no service grid with prices or services is shown, if you go to email.is you will get a screen saying if you want an email account at that domain someone will offer you some sort of "deal." I can tell you that it is likely to cost at least thirty euros a year, an outrageous price. As for ice.is, yes, it seems that the same people now use it as their family chihuahua site -- hardly a recommendation to pay them as email providers!
ice.is was pretty unreliable even before those latest developments. I remember many forum posts containing complaints ... Pity because .is is a quite neat extention and ice.is / email.is to my knowledge are the sole providers that used the .is extention for email.

There's also unseen.is.

It would be nice to know which of these support English in the email UI. I tried seznam.cz for the heck of it, and while the main page can be switched to English the email UI can't.

if you guys want a sweet short email ID....look at www.e1.ru

it's a portalsite from the Russian city of Jekaterinenburg. It's free.

Interface is roundcube. You can put it in almost any language you want.

O don't know what the storage size is...but it works good. I tried it;-)

Imap/pop3 settings are here:

http://support.e1.ru/help/3988/4008

smtp is not availeble (for now).

You can sign up here:

cheers

Thanks Dutchie007,

I was able to create the sign up without an issue, no crazy phone verification. The Imap works non ssl 143. I tried SSL 993 and it didn't work.

How long has that one been around already? The question I Always ask myself when considering a new email service is how likely it's going to survive on the long haul...

That it is backed by a city council should be a good sign but then some other similar services also didn't survive the hands of time or became only poorly used (think of for example dublin.ie)

Found a new one...French/Belgian service...

https://www.newmanity.com

the web email is from Zimbra...works OK....even to AOL.recipients..hahahahaha

it#s free....but you can donate 5 euros. AFAIK the storage is 10 gigs. To my surprise the servers were based in The Netherlands!

server settings are here:

thanks Dutchie
I really like zimbra, I'll have to check it out
edit: storage is 1Gb, but that is more than enough for me
wish they hadn't removed all the other theme options though, purple isn't my favorite color
