How to choose the right email provider?

I just wrote a blog above. Just my thoughts, not absolutely correct.
Comments welcome

Yahoo JP is operated by Softbank, they are much different from yahoo global.
The domain was changed to ymail.ne.jp recently.

I haven't run into that. Do you think it's IP or sender based, in your tests?

No, body based. Special keywords can cause that.

I agree mostly. IMHO one of the most important features is automatic spam/junk filtering to protect from the biggest online danger--email phishing and email malware. Gmail has worked great in this regard for me and my family since about 2006 with next to no effort on our parts. Here in the USA Microsoft/Outlook.com is probably the second most popular email provider, but I find their junk filtering to both snag safe emails and not snag unsafe ones. Even the business versions. Email at your own domain can avoid lots of spam/junk problems if you are careful not to spread your domain email except to trusted places, but if you use it for business that is next to impossible. If I were to use my domain email for my business I would probably pay for Google's Workspace just to take advantage of their automatic spam/junk protection. I've found Purelymail is reliable and easy to use for less demanding domain email, and their pricing is great.

On what do you base this, Jeff? Personal experience? Statistical analysis? I've try Free.fr and it's crap. Or to just say something is "great" is no help.

yes I am maintaining a statistics database which has 500,000+ email addresses in different providers.
and those addresses are mostly grab from tech lists.
free.fr has quite a large number of users.

Also my reviews for IT including email have been migrated to a new location.

I did write some articles for email systems, such as this one.
https://dnsbed.com/articles-for-inst...il-system.html

Wish they have some helps to you.

For instance, the delicated providers who have good reputation I know,

GMX.de - from German, free email
web.de - from German, free email
Mail.de - from German, free email
free.fr - from France, free email
Yahoo Japan - from Japan, free email
Protonmail - from Switzerland, free email
Riseup.net - from USA, free email
Fastmail - from Australia, paid email
Pobox - from USA, paid email
Runbox - from Norway, paid email
Mailbox.org - from German, paid email
Posteo.de - from German, paid email
Gandi.net - free email for domains on them
Is there a reason why you did not include some services that do get very good reviews here, such as MailFence?

GMX.de is rock solid as you write here, but it requires a German address (I think an actual address, not just a German IP address) to be able to open and keep an account. There is the open-to-all gmx.com but that isn't the same.

Hello,

1. I in fact have no acct on Mailfence. is it the same system run by Mail.be (ContactOffice)?
2. I got my current/only GMX.de email many years ago, at that time it didn't require an address info. And this old acct got 108GB free cloud storage.

I was surprised that there are still ISP's that have email addresses. The last one I had was simple POP3, no real storage. This was a dial up service.

many of my known people from US still use email provided by their ISP.
such as att.net, verizon.net, comcast.net, earthlink, charter and RCN still have a lot of email users.
