Maybe quitting those VPNs

Itís Time to Stop Paying for a VPN
By Brian X. Chen

Many of the most popular VPN services are now also less trustworthy than in the past because they have been bought by larger companies with shady track records. Thatís a deal-breaker when it comes to using a VPN service, which intercepts our internet traffic. If you canít trust a product that claims to protect your privacy, what good is it?

I turned to Algo VPN, a free tool developed by Mr. Guido that automatically builds a VPN service in the cloud, which shields my browsing activity by allowing me to create a virtual tunnel on an outside server for my internet traffic to pass through.

Following the instructions listed on the Algo VPN project website, I set up a cloud service where my VPN service would be located on Amazonís web services, a reputable and widely trusted cloud provider. The rest of the steps involved installing some scripts on my computer and typing in commands to generate my VPN.

Any evidence? And which "popular VPN services" are we talking about?

This assumes that the mysterious Mr NoFirstName Guido is a trustworthy competent programmer. Any evidence of either point?

An article from january 209 that gives an overview.

One example: PIA and GhostVPN is owned by Kape Technologies in Israel.

Edit: Did not see OP's link to a much more updated article ...

You can't trust any individual or company on the internet no matter how trustworthy they try to make themselves out to be.

I've often looked at the possibility of using a VPN. There are a lot of offers out there. Hard to choose and trust. I personally can't justify paying a monthly fee for this sort of service. The only time I have used a VPN is when something is blocked. Most of these bigger ones offer a whole lot of services that would not use anyway.

I hope you noticed that this is an article, not my opinion, so you'd have to ask the author for evidence, if the article, assuming you read it all, didn't persuade you.
