Just wondering . . .

When anyone reports a post as spam, how does that report get to the mods?

Does every mod (even circuit, not active on the forum since August 2003!) get an email notification?

When I report spam, I usually just say "spam" or "spammer" and then send the message.

Would it be better for the mods to get more information, for example, something along the lines of: "Korean Gambling spammer, multiple posts, etc"

I'm not a moderator, so cannot say what's better for them. But as a plain user I see no need for any additional explanations in my spam reports. A spam is a spam, whether Korean gambling, or enlargement of body parts.

I quite agree, but I was wondering if perhaps providing more info would encourage the moderator to visit the forum sooner rather than later?

I did report some Korean gambling spam earlier this morning, and did provide the extra information (Korean, multiple posts), and the spam was removed fairly quickly.

That last batch of spammers I picked one thread, opened it, reported it.

My comment was more or less busy Korean spammer today.

Those spam postings are pretty obvious.

Moderator's Comment

When one clicks on "report post", it goes to all the moderators, no exceptions. No need to elaborate, unless it's essential to understand the nature of the issue. Also, replying to a spam thread serves no purpose - the spammers never come back to read replies.
We are discussing with Edwin the possibility of appointing more moderators as many old-time moderators are not around. Stay tuned.

Another VBB site I am on (city-data.com/forum) just had a massive spam/porn attack a couple days ago,it was horrible..... They have restricted new accounts to NO PM ACCESS AT ALL (Before it was 2 PMs per 2 days until they got up to a certain post count)

They think its a BOT but they arent sure....... (Could be a person)

Agreed^^Overall one of the best moderated forums out there, with very little in the way of trolls or spam.

It would be nice, for the regulars who are invested in the forum and want it to be a vibrant place, to know if the discussions actually took place.

IMHO, the remaining moderators are only sticking around, as a sense of duty, with no real current interest in the forum.

And that doesn't bode well for the future of the forum, it needs to evolve - not stagnate.

It amazes me how many forums are loaded with trolls and spammers and nothing is ever done. Many bloggers just seem to ignore their comment sections, so maybe they don't know how toxic they are. I moderated an early Internet forum and we had zero tolerance for any nonsense. Nobody got a second chance if they posted spam or violated our terms, which included things like no racism--they were eliminated. We received many compliments on running a clean forum back when most were the Wild West.
