Search subject "%" does not work

Hello,

I receive lots of SPAMs with the character % in the subject so I wanted to delete these emails in my SPAM folder.

To do you so using the web interface I tried a search the character % in the subject field but it returns every single email available in my SPAM folder

Any chance to have this bug fixed?

Thanks
Ludo

It's not a bug. It's a wildcard character.

http://www.runbox.com/twiki/bin/view/RunboxHelp/Webmail

Search

At the bottom of the page is a search function with which you can search the current folder for messages containing a specific word in its From or Subject fields. You can also limit the search by folder, date, and size.

Limit by date

The date can be on the format YYYY, YYYYMM, or YYYYMMDD. E.g, "date > 20020620" will find messages received later than June 20, 2002, "date = 200206" will find messages received in June 2002, and "date < 2002" will find messages received before 2002.

Wildcards

The string field supports two types of wildcards:
  • _ will match a single character. For instance, "1_3" will match "123", "1 3", "1A3" but not "13" or "1AB3".
  • % will match zero or several characters. For instance, "A%Z" will match "AZ", "A through Z", "ABC...XYZ" and so on.

Rich

Hello Rich,

Fair enough, I can understand the use as a wildchar; but how can I search for the % characters in the subject field?

Thanks
Ludo

Sorry, I forgot to mention that.

You have to preceed it with the "\" like this:

\%

thanks rich.

So out of curiosity... If you set up a filter to reject all emails that includes the char % ... do you have to set it as \% or % in the filter page?
Just wondering if using only % would reject all the emails :?

Thxs

Wildcards are only related to searching, not filters/rules.

This is because searchs are performed as MySQL database searches and the "%" and "_" are MySQL wildcards.

I have updated the Runbox Help to include information about using \_ and \% to match these literal characters when searching.
