Entering babelfish.altavista.com in a browser in the UK now redirects to uk.babelfish.yahoo.com. Presumably, from other countries it redirects to the local Yahoo for that country.

I wonder when this change happened?

I find it helpful to do two translations of same text
one in babelfish and one in
http://www.google.com/language_tools?hl=en

that way I can get alternative words and grammar suggested.
Words that don't get translated in one are sometimes tranlated
in the other. Wish I ahd a third option too. Doesn't Linux have
access to a third option to tranlate? Ulteo allow one to have
windows and linux at same time and vbox makes it easy to
have both without having to do partition and such so that would
be handy to know about. Redundancy in suggestions is a good thing.

As my oldest laposte.net address is probably the most heavily spammed of any email address I've ever used, but since I did once use it somewhat extensively and have some concern that a few of the many correspondents who once had that address, having no more recent contact address, may try to reach me there, I decided to create an autoreply apprising any such correspondents of a newer address (utilizing a link to a CAPTCHA-protected access to same).

But since I'd been having numerous errors in the Laposte.net web interface, and wasn't sure whether the auto-reply I had attempted to set up had been properly activated, out of habit I went to the altavista translator to translate the resultant message in the Laposte interface: "Votre message d'absence a été activé et restera actif jusqu'à sa prochaine désactivation." Here's how altavista translated the message:

Your message d' absence was activated and will remain active jusqu' with its next desactivation.

Although it appeared to tell me that the autoreply had been successfully activated, since the translation was obviously somewhat incomplete, I decided to see what the Google translator could make of the message. Google's translation:

Your message has not been activated and will remain active until the next cancellation.

(Emphasis added, of course.) So who's telling me the truth and who is "lying"? That is, was my autoreply activated or was it not????

Of course, the fact that Google's translation seems inconsistent with itself might make it the more "suspect" of the two. And on going back to the option, it appears that my autoreply was set up correctly (although it may be a moot point in this case, as a test message I sent to my account in order to test the autoreply never made it to the account in the first place so as to give me any idea whether I would have gotten the autoreply if it had. Interesting that even the most obvious spam seems to make it to my Laposte.net Inbox, while my own message doesn't.)
