Smartphone power consumption - GSM vs WiFi

Imagine the following scenario:
I have a smartphone (let's say Android) and have to connect to the internet. The battery is low and I have no means to recharge is there and then. For the connection, I can use either GSM or WiFi. Which is easier on the battery power?

I'm not concerned about the connection speed, data limit, cost or security, only about the power usage. Does anybody know whether GSM or WiFi is better? Is there any real difference?

I'm not being very helpful, because I really don't know.

I suppose it depends what you want to use the 'phone for whilst it's running out of power.

I would always switch off Bluetooth anyway, as I know that draws a lot of power.

Wifi will use less power, by a lot in my experience. Particularly if you have a good wifi signal. On the other hand, in an area with a weak cell signal I have seen my phone drained in less than an hour while struggling to get a signal. Here's one article on the subject: https://www.pcmag.com/how-to/9-tips-...s-battery-life

Network data is strenuous on your battery, so use Wi-Fi whenever possible.
