The failure was repaired in about 18 minutes. A similar short outage occurred for some users a week ago. Fastmail uses replicated servers and backups, so I would not expect any lost mail.

Just a server crash. We're still looking into the reason. The outage is the time it takes for the monitoring systems to call someone and them to login and run the commands to switch users on that server onto replica servers.
No mail loss. That's an incredibly serious and very rare event. We have a lot of replicas and backups in place to protect against it. |

Rob, the previous failure was nearly exactly one week ago (within 10 minutes). Is that just coincidence?

intermittent connection issues this morning
I'm seeing intermittent connection issues this morning.
I don't know if that's because of lingering problems after yesterday's outage, or whether or not my DNS lookups are slow. I don't imagine FM's IP address <--> hostname association has changed, but I don't know how FM does things. I used to use Verizon's DNS resolvers, but switched to OpenDNS and Google as backup in the last 3 months or so. - Jan |
