Error: 550 Relay not permitted
I have Incredimail a standalone email program, similar to Outlook Express. I am trying to use my Runbox.com account with Incredimail.
I am able to receive my messages inro Incredimail. However, I cannot send anything using Incredimail. However, there is NO problem receiving/sending when I use Outlook Express. When I try to send with Incredimail, I get a message saying something about "550 Relay not permitted". What does this mean? I used Incredimail for about year. Then I had problems with pc and took it out. What can I change the port smtp number to so my messages will go out? I use Earthlink as my ISP but my CABLE internet service through one of their partners, Brighthouse. I would love to be able to use Incredimail and my runbox account together again. Can someone help? Thank you. |

Gena,
Welcome to the EMD forums. You can change SMTP port number to 26 or 587. But if OE works with port 25, so should Incredimail. Have you check the box next to outgoing server requires authentication? |

Can you please clarify what you mean when you say you want to use Runbox with Incredimail?
Do you mean you want to send emails through Runbox from Incredimail? Do you mean you want to collect emails sent to a Runbox account into Incredimail? Do you mean something else? Right now, I'm unclear where Runbox comes into the picture. |

Hi, thanks for replying. Hope I'm doing this right.
Yes, the outgoing mail server requires authentication is checked. I'll change the port to 587 and try sending again. I'll let you know if it works. Be back in a few minutes! |

port 587 outgoing mail
I changed the smtp port number to 587. Still get the "One or more messages could not be sent. These messages are still in your outbox, please correct them and try again." Then it says "550 Relay not permitted".
What can I do? Liz, a representative sorted it out for me a few months back, but my computer had a "burp" and had to be fixed. Now I can't remember what she told me to do. I've e-mailed support but still nothing. What else can I try? |

Maybe Liz will have to fix your account. I've asked a Moderator to move the thread to the Runbox forum so that Liz can see it.

Gena,
The error you are getting is the one you will get when there is something wrong with the authentication. Could you look closely at your settings in IncrediMail and se how you have it set up now, and what other options there are? Liz |

Hmm...all that looks perfectly correct! Is it the runbox account you use in OE as well, where you can send? And the two are on the same PC and the same network setup? Do you have a firewall or anti-virus software on your PC?

I only use one computer at home with my OE and Incredimail and I have Cable Internet service. NO firewall, but I've always used Nortons anti-virus on my pc ever since somebody sent me the dreaded Navidad virus a few years ago. Now I don't dare open anything until it's been scanned and I keep it updated. What do you think's going on here? |

I had a similar problem with OE once. All the settings were fine, but it did not work. I deleted the account, and re-created the account with the same settings... and it worked! Thanks, Microsoft, for making our lives so interesting!

That might be worth a try, even if IM isn't an MS product.

Relay 550 not permitted...Saga continues
I was going through my SENT Folder in Incredimail and found several e-mails from when my e-mails DID NOT go through as a result of the 550 Relay message. I'll paste one here in hopes that someone, maybe Liz can figure it out.
This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification. I'm sorry to inform you that the message you have sent could not be delivered to one or more destinations. The following addresses had permanent delivery errors <genausa@runbox.com>: (unrecoverable error) ----- Transcript of session follows ----- mail.local: unknown name: genausa 550 <genausa@runbox.com>: User unknown in virtual mailbox table I've ALWAYS used genausa since I signed up. And my address starts out genausa! Howcome I'm now an unknown user??? |

A good start would be figuring out who this mysterious I is, and which mail exchanger, if any, he received the error message from. Tore |
