Remote access to your homecomputer or work even?
http://www.computeractive.co.uk/features/1156204
The ins and outs of remote PC access Check and send emails, access files and folders and fix friends' PCs from anywhere in the world with our guide to remote computer access. Rob Hawkins, Computeractive 25 Jun 2004 Due to copyright thingy I ask you to read the text at site. I post the link here cause when I go on holiday travel next season I want to be able to remotely have contact with my computer at home in a safe way. Have you tested different progs and what are your reactions to them. reviews or links to reviews would be appreciated. Trew PS if you have XP then MS seems to already include such software. Heave you used it? How does it compare. Is it secure? How does it work with the free firewals like zoneAlarm and OutPost and SyGate? "Windows XP also has a remote access program called Remote Desktop Connection. It can be opened via the Start menu (click on Programs, Accessories, then Communications) and provides access to permitted computers across the internet." here is link to a text about it http://www.computeractive.co.uk/features/1133721 Windows XP: Remote access to the desktop Our new series on Windows XP starts with how to access your desktop from a remote PC. Alan Stevens, PC Magazine 07 Jul 2002 so it is a rather old text Last edited by fmnewbee : 26 Oct 2004 at 01:13 PM. |

I use Remote Admin, which, although old, is very usable. It consists of a small server part that can be put on any port on the host, and a small viewer. At only US$35, I can highly recommend it.

Seems none of them is really free.
Isn't it ironic that a Trojan worm has these capabilities for free but only from the aggressor side. Him having remote to my computer but me not to mine.
So one want a decent trustable writer to make such tech available as a free ware? I don't mind if it show me a lot of ads though to pay the writer of it |

Well, security is definitely an issue. I can see loads and loads of people knocking at my (Remote Admin's) door. They just have to provide the correct password, though.

Um, I thought it was called "spam"!
The article read like it was trying to sell something???????? Still at the end of the day if the computer isn't working and isn't allowing a person to get on to the net for all of this remote access, then the good old "shankes' pony" is the only way that's going to sort the problem out |

Teacher your back!!!
tyupical of me to not get this part:
"the good old "shankes' pony" is the only way that's going to sort the problem out" I'll be some 4.5 hours by "GreyHound" Bus or 2.5 with Fast Expencive Train so if the good old "shankes' pony" is less expenive and fast enough? "Still at the end of the day if the computer isn't working and isn't allowing a person to get on to the net for all of this remote access," I have tried to figure out if one could schedule a fresh restart every morning via a Timer? Teacher have you tried Win XP inbuilt remote access? Is it safe? bplat thanks for very good link. Hope one don't have to compile to get it functional. Are you using it? seaweed you don't need any remote you could use your imagination Last edited by fmnewbee : 26 Oct 2004 at 08:50 PM. |

fmnewbee-
As I've indicated, I'm using Remote Administrator, not VNC (in any flavour). Main reason is that RAdmin is more secure. Out of the box, that is: you can use TightVNC through OpenSSH. Hi Mandy, good to see you back. -...ert |

Back, but not for long.... too much work and a very big change of life style.
Yes, I have tried the XP remote access. I personally don't like it and I'm still not sure about it's security issues, hence it is no longer used. Hi Bert and to all! |
