If a man by the NAME of Johnnie Bryan Hunt's dream had been fulfilled, And his pet project had moved ahead, CERN may possibly have had to play second fiddle to a super collider in Texas.

J.B. Hunt CAME to that property late, many years after the supercollider project was cancelled in 1993. He wanted to operate a data center in those underground facilities. The site is now owned by a chemical company. I live about a 40 minute drive north of the SSC site.

Yes: it seems that my earlier posting was incorrect. I will blame my LAME comment on the fact that I was browsing with a cell phone (an old one at that) and I was unable to read the article very well.

Agreed: that said, I am wondering if there is GATE around the complex (where the incomplete Super Collider site is situated) - have you ever driven up to it; the pictures on the site I posted earlier look pretty interesting.

I have not visited the site to GAPE at the remains, and was only at the main building once or twice about 20 years ago before it was abandoned (working on test equipment sales to the SSC). But you can read about the later state of that abandoned facility here: Who’s afraid of the Superconducting Super Collider?

Thank you for the link, it is much appreciated. As I will likely never GAZE at the site myself, I will stop asking questions, and allow the thread to hopefully move on.

It is interesting to see how clever little mice are, navigating themselves around a MAZE. They have an incredible sense of smell for such small creatures, finding the cheese (or whatever the treat is) at the end.

Will the current owner of the site RAZE it, for example because it's to expensive to keep, or 'cos it's mice-infected?

Algernon the mouse could RACE around a maze with ease.

Some Waxahachie residents are in a RAGE about a chemical company purchasing the superconducting supercollider site.

May be the abandoned site is suitable for a RAVE?

I often (and still) wonder why the powers that be (in the USA) did not try to SAVE the facility, for what it was originally intended to be, and yes, I have read the reasons given elsewhere.

The Higgs boson (theory) is still not rock solid and science is full of millions of disproven theories.

There was a missed opportunity here (IMHO)
