Well firstly, congratulations to Edwin on the successful upgrade. You can't please everyone all the time, but I'm sure we all realise the effort that's been put into this. I know how difficult maintaining a forum can be, but the ones I'm involved in don't have nearly enough members that I have to keep happy so I can't imagine what a tough time Edwin has right now.
I do like the colours and design of the forum and it's great that it fills the width of my screen now. I think the more invisible features will be a huge improvement even if the members aren't aware of it. However, I do have a few issues. The font is too large for my liking and I keep decreasing it - that's not ideal but plenty seem to like it a bit bigger so I'll live with it. The other thing is that I'm not sure the problem with having quick reply on. I'm sure plenty don't like that feature but as someone mentioned users can turn that off and your settings will be saved. Why remove something that some will find useful and the ones that don't can turn off anyway? Those are just a few of my thoughts. Again though, thanks Edwin for the work you do here. |

I'll add my (small) voice to those who opine that the font size is too large..

I've covered this font issue in more depth here...
http://www.emaildiscussions.com/showthread.php?t=47983 Fundamentally, it's just down to "luck" whether the font size will work for your particular situation or not. But it's currently set in such a way that it likely to be "ok" for the largest number of people using the widest range of browsers. And it's adjustable using the font size controls on your browser. In other words, it's the "least worst" scenario since it would be literally impossible to set a particular font size that suits everyone given the user-by-user disparities in screen resolution, screen size, browser width, eyesight etc. If the current font size doesn't really work for you, it just means that you happen to be in the minority of folks for which the previous font size "happened" (again, it's all luck) to work better than the current one. |

I find it difficult to see which forum have new posts. In the old system, forums with new postings are in bold. Now I have to look at the icons, and the icons for new posts and no new post looks very similar.

No they shouldnt be hard for anyone to make out the differences...
Vbulletin 3.0+ icons are VERY user friendly The Icon turns Orange/Yellow with 2 sheets of paper hanging if theres new activity.. Otherwise its a Blue V with only 1 sheet pinned up..... |

The "New Posts" link
In the old forum software I used to start with the "new posts" link in the forum start page which created a "search" with all the threads that have new posts since the last time I visited the forum. I then kept this open until I browsed through the whole list, which sometimes took more than a day. Now there's a "New Posts" link in the menu bar (and I used it and it produced the same list of messages since the last time I visited. However, it didn't last long. It had 175 threads with new posts, but after I browsed 125 of them, I think, I couldn't get the next 25 and instead got an empty list. So it seems the "New Posts" list is kept for a much shorter time than in the previous version, which is annoying when there are lots of new threads (such as when I return after I was away from the forum for several days.).
On the positive side: having lost the list of unread posts I can go to sleep earlier ... |

Well I guess I'm easy to please! I don't mind the large font, I don't mind about new posts not showing up the same, don't mind that I'm not logged in/or can edit messages for the same amount of time, don't worry about the spacing of forum columns, or the forum colours or even the size of the forum text.
What I DO care about is a simple feature, the quick reply. I just really cannot understand why such a useful and simple feature to use has been disabled! dan |

I've never had this problem, either with the old forum or with the new one. Unlike with other forums which time me out after a day or two, when I login to EMD I stay logged in for weeks (which means I hardly remember the password...)
